"When I started in 2007, I brewed at home in my living room," recalls Francis Joncas, owner of Pub Pit Caribou.
At the time, the young brewer had named his microbrewery Pub Pit Caribou in honour of one of his favourite TV characters from the popular drama Belles Histoires des Pays d’en haut. "Since this character was a huge alcoholic, I thought it would be funny to give it a fisherman's face smoking a pipe," says Francis. And so the pub's logo was born.
Today, this little beer empire, originally from the village of L' Anse-à-Beaufils in the Gaspésie, brews over 550,000 litres of beer per year, bottles award-winning beers, distributes all over the province and even includes — finally — a pub in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal. Not bad for a kid from the Gaspésie!
The reputation of this dynamic company located in the town of Percé is unrivalled. A darling of beer lovers and award winner at the Canadian Brewing Awards, the microbrewery has a dedicated tasting room. Its brewing facilities are located nearby. You’ll be pleased to know that Pit Caribou will let you taste your choice of their blond, red, white, porter and IPA beers, in addition to its limited editions on offer at any given moment.
