Le Pet Spa has the fine distinction of being the first business of its kind in all of Montreal. The store opened in 1996 on Sherbrooke Street, but just recently relocated to its new and improved location on St. Jacques. Le Pet Spa first established its business as an upscale grooming facility for pets. Owner Carla Chiarella then brought in the idea of a doggy day care, where clients could feel comfortable leaving their dogs. “I merged with a woman who already had an established grooming clientele. After we came together we did a lot of research on day cares, we went to Ontario and even California to research the best places. When it started to seem like a genuine possibility, we combined the two ideas together.”
In 2014 Le Pet Spa opened up an overnight boarding facility with 24 hour a day on-site care. “It’s a cage free environment, so very laid-back. It’s stress-free boarding. I’m not aware of any other service like this in Montreal, where someone’s always on hand to take care of the animals,” says Carla. The idea is that your dog comes in and gets to play with other dogs all day. Either outside or in the very large indoor area that Le Pet Store has specifically designed to make it comfortable for the animals. “They can run around and play all day and night. We lock the doors to the public at 7 p.m.. I have staff from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. watching the dogs. So if there’s a problem there’s always someone awake.”
