Meet the owner

Le Petit Coin was a joint venture of certain restauranteurs in the area who recognized the neighbourhood’s needs. “There was a grocery store here before and it went under,” David Ferguson, owner of Restaurant Gus, explains.

Martin Juneau and Louis-Philippe Breton from Pastaga approached David about taking on the project together. They felt the neighbourhood still needed a grocery shop and were interested in the ideas and images to make it unique. The philosophy was to have everything from a craft dinner to fois gras.

“That was in the fall,” David says. “We started working in earnest in December and opened in late January 2015.”

Le Petit Coin runs the gamut in convenience store items. “We’re purposefully trying not to be exclusively high-end but we do have those items,” says David. “We also have dish detergent and cat food. The vegetables are the ones you’d find in our restaurants. The stock is changed over very quickly because we use what’s here as well. The spirit of our establishments and the sensibility of us all being chefs goes into Le Petit Coin,” says David.

Foodie finds: Montreal gourmet grocery stores

Chef Martin Juneau is omnipresent in this corner of Rosemont, and his presence now includes a neighbourhood grocery store, Le Petit Coin, which he opened with his colleagues, chefs Louis-Philippe Breton and David Ferguson. On the rustic shelves of this gourmet convenience store you’ll find staples like milk and potato chips alongside a carefully selected range of products from Quebec, including venison, pork, sausage and foie gras, alongside seasonal fruits and vegetables and spices in bulk, teas to accompany sweet treats, bread from Arhoma and oil from Société-Orignal.
