For as long as she can remember, Marie-Ève Émond has had a passion for clothes, textiles and colours. Her grandmother, who made clothes when Marie-Ève was very young, was her inspiration to take up sewing.
As soon as she was old enough, she made her way to Montreal to start her studies in fashion. "I already knew I wanted my own brand and my own business," says Marie-Ève, who worked for several years to gain experience before going into business. She came to realize by working in the industry that her chosen career would definitely reflect her values; she would produce long-lasting clothes that wouldn't follow any particular fashion, but would still be contemporary in look and style.
Marie-Ève is a designer at Betina Lou, a Montreal-based women's clothing brand that has gone from strength to strength since 2009. "We had a lot of demand for menswear, so we did it," she says. The result was Betina Lou, a shop that has been dressing men since 2015 through her elegant and durable line called Marmier.
