Best independent coffee shops in Toronto

Best independent coffee shops in Toronto

If you’re looking for a cool, casual place to hangout with a few friends, this is it. With ample seating (more room upstairs and on the patio) and a rustic-chic interior, this is epitome of a social coffee shop. This spot offers tasting flights and on top of coffee, there’s wine, beer, whisky and a food menu, if you’re hungry. Boxcar Social has other locations as well.

    Best café bars in Toronto

    Best café bars in Toronto

The owners of Boxcar Social pay equal attention to both sides of the restaurant. During the day, it offers a carefully curated and rotating list of coffees from the best roasters in the world, and when the sun goes down there’s a selection of some of the world’s top wines, craft beer and whiskies. From 8 am until 4 pm there’s pastries and lunch items like Avo Toast and fresh salads, and starting at 6 pm you can enjoy the charcuterie boards and crostini.

The best café patios in Toronto

The best café patios in Toronto

Boxcar Social is certainly a midtown gem (bonus sans-patio location in Riverside). All year long, the café churns out everything from killer Rwandan espresso to craft beer, whisky and charcuterie. Given its two-floor expanse, you might miss the patio located at the rear. With twosome wooden tables, a cement bar, and an oak tree providing some much-needed shade, this patio is like the backyard study party you never had. That’s if you’re lucky enough to nab a spot.
