Meet the owner

When Zuimei Okuyama got married, he had his reception in the historic Distillery District. “[The] first time I came to the Distillery District, I didn’t know this area. When I came here, I really loved it,” says Zuimei. The experience stayed with Zuimei, and in 2005 he realized a dream when he opened Boku Sushi in one of his favourite neighbourhoods.

Zuimei had already been an entrepreneur. He owns a fast-casual ramen restaurant on Queen Street, but wanted a place where people could sit and enjoy themselves. The advantage of being in the Distillery District to him is its walkable layout, with people often strolling past. The patio at Boku Sushi is inviting, and in the summer, bustling with people stopping in to enjoy a drink or a quick bite of sashimi.

Best patios in the Distillery District

The covered patio perfectly sums up Boku – a fusion of the industrial architecture of the space and the perfectly plated Japanese cuisine. From the minds of popular ramen spot, Touhenboku, Boku’s patio is modern with a bit of Asian flare. Try the Distillery Roll: battered and flash fried maki with shrimp, salmon, avocado and cucumber, topped with cheese, masago and unagi sauce.
