Best sushi in town.

We felt sorry for this restaurant when it opened as we were certain that it would fail - simply due to its location. It hasn't. It has thrived. And after eating there, we know why. I have lived in Japan for many years. I have been to most Japanese restaurants in town. Sushi Ya is the best sushi restaurant I have been to in Canada. You can tell the difference simply in the quality of their product compared to their competitors. The tuna is of the highest quality (you can tell). Their Tempura is cooked properly & is not overbreaded like at other restaurants in town. Their Yaki Udon is fantastic. And their rolls are simply superb.

First and Last Time visit

I came to Sushi Ya after reading these reviews on this site. I cannot command how this restaurant compares to other sushi place in Kingston, since I am new here, but the food here is not even comparable with these fake jap food in Toronto. First impression, the restaurant has no possibility been an authentic Japaneses restaurant. From the chair, table, even the tea they offer. Everything there are "duplication", the chef/waitress are Korean... It is our first time been offered green tea, instead of wheat tea in jap restaurant. Since they define themselves as Japaneses, they follow too much of the authentic Jap rule: when the donburi comes, I can hardly find any rice! And the chicken was so salty that there is no way to eat em up with more rice! I asked if that is for Kid's Menu! Such a big joke that chicken donburi comes with 90% of lettuce 8% chicken 2% of egg, no onions. It is also my first time to taste a hot tomago (a kind of sushi FYI), I can't believe they serve it HOT! The rice is also way too sour, beyond acceptance...Luckily we didn't order more. The udon noodle itself is not the authentic Japanese udon, tastes weird and cheaper. Anyway, I really doubt if the high ratings on this restaurant is made by the restaurant itself; or maybe the food there taste good for those of you guys who never experience the Japaneses stuff before. BSeriously, if you are Asian, or you have tried real Japanese food in other cities before, I will never recommend this place.

Absolutely delicious food, even the little appetizer they give you before the meal. Very reasonable prices, and the serving sizes are ample. I will definitely be going back there for all-you-can-eat sushi.

Other sushi doesn't taste the same since I started going to Sushi Ya. I literally go to Sushi Ya twice a week because the sushi is just so great. You can tell that the ingredients are always really fresh and they have a lot of dishes that are unique - the speciality is the dragon rolls. The atmosphere is really great, too. It's definitely a diamond in a slightly sketchy neighbourhood. The Kingston Whig Standard reviewed them (Check out the article online!) and said that it was the best Sushi in Kingston... I absolutely agree! The only thing is, once I went in on a Saturday night and it was quite busy and the food took a long time to arrive... best to go there during the day when things aren't so busy.

Well Worth the Walk!

I was new to sushi upon my first visit to Sushi Ya, and I barely ever even eat fish, but this cute little place calmed my fish fears and I have been back twice and have ordered their delivery. Every so often one comes upon a restaurant that gives you a good feeling in your belly and inspires great conversation even long after you've paid up and left, and Sushi Ya has that perfect quality. The restaurant is fresh and clean, the servers are happy to explain the menu items, and the owner is clearly proud and careful with his new establishment. The sushi is awesome, and although I may not be the best judge of quality because of my relative inexperience, my more experienced friends were similarly delighted. The delivery was the same quality as in the restaurant, and it was surprisingly quick to arrive. My only complaint about Sushi Ya is that it's not close enough to where I live to go there all the time!

I thought that the Service was Truely lovely, I've never eaten at a sushi restraunt before and the waitress answered all of our questions happily. We were not skilled or knowledgable in, ah, Japanese table manners, and I've recently found out that we made a couple oppsies but the staff didn't seem to mind. The Sushi was Ffesh, delicious, and very filling. I especially liked the ebi ( which I had had before but not from a strictly sushi restrauant) I also enjoyed the tako. I am not a fan of Salmon cooked or otherwise so I found that I couldn't stomach it and that made me feel very bad, but the young gentleman I was with said that it was very enjoyable as well.

Sushi Ya offers a variety of sushi. The red dragon roll (shrimp tempura roll wrapped with salmon and cucumber)taste awesome ! They put in a sauce that you can't find in other sushi restaurant in kingston. The bento comes with salad, soup, and rice. The beef is marinated in a sweet sauce, and it taste great! I heard that their fish is freshly shipped from Toronto every week. I will definitely go back again!
