The food was great but I ordered the special chow main. The description specifically says it comes with dry noodles but no dry noodles were to be seen. I've ordered this before. I called the restaurant and they said they gave me a bag of those Chinese cracker noodles. That is not dry noodle. Will not be ordering from them. I'm grateful that this place is not the only Chinese restaurant in my area.
Best Chinese food, I have ever tasted
I have been travelling from Oakville for the past 8 years to eat here. I have introduced my friends and family with similar comments. The restaurant has the best General Tao Chicken ever!!!
I cannot understand how anybody could give this food a good review. It was easily the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten and even if I got my money back I still wouldn't excuse the total disaster that was this meal. I would never order from this place again and certainly wouldn't recommend it to anyone with working taste buds or even the ability to sense texture in their mouth. DISGUSTING.
Love the General Tao Chicken at this place!
This is a great Chinese food restaurant in our area and I was surpised they run the business since 1947. They provides Chinese food different from Chinatown, I like the General Taos' chicken, Crispy Ginger Beef and Cantonese Style Chow Mein, all these are my favor. The price is reasonable to me, even if you just want to enjoy the beer. Service is acceptable if compare to their food quality and the price... If you like Chinese food, I will recommend you with Hong Kong Gardens' take out or delivery service.
To be fair I can't give this restaurant a great review score, since it isn't that great. We ordered the spicy peanut chicken and the szechuan beef and noodle. The food is lacking in spice a bit but that is easily fixed with the hot sauce on hand. The meat and vegetables are well cooked and fresh, however. The portions are enormous. We walked away with enough food for another meal, and all for under $10 for dish. thus the food gets 4 stars for value. The atmosphere is definitely 'retro', but it is cute. They had a tv at the top of the stairs and it had a very homey quality to it. Overall a great experience, even if the restaurant isn't top notch.
Been going to Hong Kong Gardens for 20 years.. always great. Need of a restaurant make over but the food is always great. You guys rock and roll.
I used to deliver part-time for this restaurant over 40 years ago. The decor looks pretty much the same, but it was clean. My wife had an egg roll, I had a spring roll. She said it's the best egg roll she's ever had and I said the same of the spring roll. We had the Lemon Chicken, Cantonese Chow Mein, and Vegetable Rice, and a beer each. We were stuffed when we left, and took enough of each item to eat again tomorrow. EXCELLENT Lemon Chicken! Total including tip: $38.00. This is the BEST in the WEST-end, and we'll definitely return.
Three things about this resturant hat make me never want to dine there: 1) Their steamed rice has no moist and is not sticky at all. The waitress says they cooked the rice in the morning of the same day, but I suspect that they are reusing the rice from yesterday or before. 2) Their service is too excessive, which makes me annoyed. Every three minutes, three different waitresses keep coming back to my table to add more tea and to remove used plates!
I like the crispy ginger beef very much, and the hot sour soup. I think it's the best Chinese food in this area.
Wonton soup was good. Cantonese chow mein, noodles were nice and crunchy and lots of good meats and vegetables but the sauce was very bland, and it really made everything in the dish, noodles and meats and veg bland. I poured soy and hot sauce on it, but could not save it.
This place is great! Everything I've tried here so far has been awesome (general tao chicken, spring/egg roll, kung pao chicken). It's cheap & the portions are huge. The atmosphere is casual & the service is good..sometimes there's a wait but it's worth it. :)
there are NO sweet and sour chichen balls anywhere in the city like these! Everything else yummy too. Been going there for 40 years!
Food was exquisite! The decor is nice, the service was a bit slow but very friendly and attentive. The Lemon Chicken, breaded Shrimps and egg rolls were to die for, and the other foods were fantastic. Wine selection is average.
Best kept eggroll secret in town. Right across from Kingswat theatres, relaxed atmosphere due to lack of customers, always a plus. It is honestly a great place to dine. Check it out.
Lemon Chicken is to die for! friendly atomosphere, some minor renovations would make it a 10! Prices are excellent.
