Everything was extremely overpriced. Food was ok not bad but was not worth the high price, especially with the quality & portion sizes being on the smaller size. Was also a long wait even when not busy. Decor was nice, view was beautiful.
The food was very poor and we waited for ever to get it then it was terrible and the beer is over priced compared to every where else on the southshore. all the staff smelled of smoking which was very off putting all in all a very bad experience and will never visit again
I've visited Mug and Anchor 6 times in the last 3 years. The location and atmosphere are excellent. But the food is remarkably bad. Each and every time the food is worse than the last visit. Recently, we arrived there, a party of nine, and every plate was terrible: extremely greasy, overcooked, rubbery and very bad tasting. What's more the portions were very small and the price high. The plates were grilled cheese, cheese burgers, fries, wings, nachos and they were all horrible. The clubhouse was okay, but the fries were an absolutley weird texture, just couldn't figure out what they cooked them in. How can such simplistic food be so ill-prepared? Never have I seen anything so bad. Absolutely shameful! The micro-beers they sell are unfortunately very poorly cared for and served whether stale, bottom of the keg, warm etc. I firmly believe the off-scour foam from each and every beer is collected in a jug then poured into new orders. The beer is great at times and horrible now and then - take your chances. But the food …? Avoid it at all cost because it's always complete rubbish and a total waste of money. --Greg
In general, the food was mediocre. The kids had the “nachos” plate, which had been micro-waved. The cheese glued itself to the wax paper underneath. This left the nice checkered pattern on the paper embedded into the cheese. YUCK! To be fair, they didn’t charge us for the nachos.
My fiance and I decided to stop in here for dinner while on our engagement weekend- it was a bad choice! Keep in mind, during the entire visit they *were not* filled to capacity, the staff was unorganized, and spent more time talking then serving customers. After getting a seat inside the sweltering pub, our drinks were ordered.....20 mins went by, no drinks. We were then moved to the deck on request, our drink order was forgotten and reordered again (by another server). Another 20 mins passed , we finally got our drinks. A few minutes later someone came to get our meal order, great! - not so much. She returned 10 minutes later after forgetting what we wanted....the tip is dropping per minute! After waiting 45 minutes and hearing other customers complain about the wait/service the food shows up, mine was received incorrectly and was anything but spectacular quality. The waitress said 'There you go!' and I replied with 'Great, only took an hour' She then proceeded to argue with me telling me I 'wasn't there an hour' ! I was shocked, I work in customer service and if I employed her she would be out on the street. The reason why it looked to her like we weren't there an hour was because we were moved, forgotten about, and the slack staff wasn't paying attention- to anyone. After we both told her we had been she informed us 'thats what we get for going to a pub in Mahone Bay on a Sunday' This simply shocked me more, considering many places in Halifax seem to operate fine with a few people in the restaurant- on a Sunday- on the waterfront, something tells me their are more people on the Halifax waterfront then in a small town. Perhaps they may want to join the real world in customer service. She received a 0 dollar tip for her attitude, and we both will never give Mug & Anchor Pub another cent. Theirs lots of other places we can spend money at!
This is one of my favourite pubs in Nova Scotia. The spectacular view of Mahone Bay from the patio never fails to brighten my day. Gaze at the majestic, and well photographed, "3 Churches on the Ocean" and the sailboats floating by. I've been here at least 20 times over the last 20 years and the Mug & Anchor never fails to impress. The atmosphere is good old down home Nova Scotian. The staff are always great and the food is consistently excellent and good value.
atmosphere very welcoming and staff friendly and very efficient ..will definetly frequent this place again....
