Meet the owner

On Brock Street in Whitby, just a couple of kilometres north of the historic Four Corners, is a large restaurant whose potential lay untapped until restaurateurs Chris and Russ bought it in 2009. They opened The Brock House, a “Muskoka cottage meets Whistler chalet,” and have been serving the people of Whitby good food ever since.

At The Brock House, the menu features such tasty items as shrimp and lobster pot pie, sweet potato gnocchi, pizza (gluten-free dough available) and lamb shank - all served in an inviting environment with exposed brick walls and that cozy chalet feel.

I don't know why the Brock House is getting negative reviews. Their food is good and it's not out of a package. I've had Poutine with brie and lamb - very good. The Hoagie is delicious and their wings are crispy and excellent. My wife has enjoyed the Burger and some pasta specials. We haven't had a bad meal yet. We haven't been there on a busy night so I can't say anything about that but overall the service has been very good on a regular night. Whitby needs more independent restaurants like The Brock House, The Nice Bistro and Chatterpauls. Beats Boston Pizza any day.

not impressed

For an early Valentines Dinner my husband braught me here because he knew i wanted to try it. Beautiful decor. I had a mixed drink (watery),. Appetizer their Boccacini cheese balls. Good but almost cold. Mentioned this to the waitress and she gave a lame excuse.( you only get 3 for $9.99. )We both ordered the Prime rib dinner. Mine with a baked potatoe hubby had the smokey bacon cheddar mashed potatoes that he really liked until he found a piece of plastic in them. Both of our primes were tough and dry. We ordered med. well. The waitress when she eventually came to check on our meals was told acted shocked and got the manager who proceeded to tell us that prime rib should be ordered Med -rare at most. Well, we've eaten alot of prime ribs from the keg to El Stavros and even The Marwood and we always order med-well and they are melt in your mouth!!!!! If that is the only way that they can make sure it is tender then they need to tell their guests to order them like that or not at all. Also like a previous review stated you don't get any buns or bread, salad? I guess we were paying for the decor, because the service and food was not worth our money. ( they did subtract the price of one of the meals) But we still paid way too much. I wish i had have read the reviews before we wasted our hard earned money and wrecked our Valentine's dinner. The Brock House NEVER disappoints me when i go. food is always cooked to perfection and the staff don't force you out after eating like other restaurants do when their trying to sit as many people over their dinner rush. their new Sunday brunch is to die for! where else can you get this much quality food for $15!! will definitely go back.

Basic at best

My wife and I did not realize that Krebs was NO LONGER. We had a $16 coupon from the Entertainment Book (for Krebs), so we decided to use it.................not happening!! I can't remember a dinner that we have ordered that has not had some rolls or breads prior to the meal. Absolutely nothing was provided except what was ordered off the menu. The $4 cocktail was a reasonable price, but our drinks were pretty weak and tasteless. (we each had ONE) The prime rib was very good as was the soup of the day (ASPARAGUS). No other soups were on the menu. Krebs had a salad bar, which was the big reason why we went to that restaurant, This place requires at least $8 to have a salad. The cheesecake was good (not cheap) Our server was very friendly and up-beat. We only had one soup, one salad, and one desert between the 2 of us. The roast beef was one of the cheaper entrees ($23) Final bill was $88 (including HST). With tip, this was one of our less memorable (less value, as well) $100 dinners. We will not be back!!
