We had our VandenDool Jewellers staff Christmas social at The Lake House recently. Everyone had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, the service was wonderful and the atmosphere was great. Thank you Lake House!
We have been here many time the food is always GREAT !!!! ... The last time was Easter Sunday ... We arrived early & had no reseverations .. we were surprised that they were able to serve us .. We were not dissappointed !!! the food was sooooo gooooood !!! we ate every bite !!! Wish we lived ckoser as we have a 2 hour drive to get there !!!
Having a 8:30 reservation, We arrived 20 min early and figured we'd just have a cocktail at the bar.... 30 minutes later the hostess arrived and pointed to a table 5 feet behind us in the bar area surrounded by people standing around it... she asked us if it was going to be ok....we both said no... 10 minutes later they had a table for us in the dining room by the window......nice table but very dark, unlit candle .. I do need reading glasses but even wearing them we could not read the menu.. the print was small and when I mentioned this to the waitress she comented that the lights were set lower for earthday..it did not help me read the menu even after I lit our candle.. we ordered the prime rib, which we were told was great.. it arrived in a timely fashion, nicely plated but the majority of the prime rib was fat...I have prime rib often and usually have nothing left on my plate...not so at this restaurant after cutting most of the fat off , my side plate was overflowing with fat...very little left to enjoy..I went to use the washroom and was disgusted in the condition of the restroom.. no paper towels.... full gabage and paper towels all over the ground... when I mentioned this to the hostess she informed me that they check the restrooms every half hour......???? obviously not the case on our visit ......will I go back? not ever...I'm very confused as to why I always see a full parking lot there...maybe i was there on an off night but I just found too many things wrong

Location is beautiful, service was excellent, the food was terrible. I was looking forward to eating at the Lake house since moving to the area and I have to say it was very disappointing. Not worth the 100 dollars i spent on dinner. Should have thrown my money out the window on the highway on the trip down, Mc Donald's would have hit the spot better. I was also surprised that the bill came at full price, while I hardly touched the appetizers or the entree. Only good food was the desert and coffee... will not return. If looking for something off the hook... try Pepperwood in Burlington....Off the hook food! we where with a party of 12 and half the party wasn't impressed as well.
We have tried this restaurant a number of times over the years and have found the food - but especially the service - mixed. On our last visit I can honestly state that they seem to have their act together and the "hostesses with attitude" have gone. Our reservation was honoured (rather than a previous time when they claimed we had made a reservation for a different time - as if); we choose the table on the deck after trying one inside with no complaint from the waiter when we decided to move; the food was a wonderful surprise both in quality and quantity (the waiter promised three large shrimp for my appetizer - there were in fact four, wonderfully done in garlic butter); the delivering waiter went back to the kitchen to get an answer to a question we had about the food (we were pleasantly surprised to have scalloped potatoes with ham in the centre; our section waiter was unobtrusive with few interuptions; and to top it off, a surprise sizeable frozen yogurt dish was given to the person whose day we were celebrating (with two spoons and a candle on top!). My only complaint was while our waiter was solicitous, her eye failed to see our wine glasses empty each time she came to check on the table. Why bother checking to see if everything is alright when you should notice that glasses are empty. This is a question of training; not of attitude or capability. The bottom line is that at $140 for dinner (including tip and tax) I think you can expect just a bit more and not expect the customers to fill their own glasses. All in all a nice dinner with a great view on a clear evening across the lake to the big city.
Went here for the first time and loved it! We would definitely return. Great service, great food. Person at our table had the rib eye steak and I had the whole wheat linguine. Love the variety of little deserts. Just enough after a big meal.
Dropped in around 5:00pm with no reservation. No problem: had lovely table for two where we could enjoy the view over the lake. Service was excellent. Malcolm was a very courtious server. the owner matre de came to ask us if all was well with the meal and the service; most attentive staff. The clam chowder was hot and excellent and so was the escargot served in filo pastry. Arctic char was tasty and neatly cooked just right. Serve with gnockies it was too much to eat but it sure was good. The NY strip steak was also excellent. Great surprise find on our way home from Niagara Falls. We will go there again for sure.
We dropped in the previous night(Aug 20) - to reserve a table for the next night - which was a celebration of my husbands 70th birthday. Our waitress was not very attentive to us, never mentioned specials and didn't ask us if we were interested in appetizers. She returned to our table only when we were able to get her attention. Apparently our waitress had been advised of a special chocolate sundae which we never received - We also had a problem with being charged for 3 ice teas for $9.25. Unfortunately, celebrating my husbands 70th birthday was not a memorable occasion. We live within 5 miles of the restaurant - in Heritage Village.
Took my daughter and son-in law out for their anniversary dinner. It was a great evening. We were seated immediately upon arrival and the service just continued from there. Our server, Cynthia, was able to offer us any guidance we needed with the menu and what specials were available. We started with a lovely glass of wine and paired that with the basket of bread. We all loved our entrees, with 2 of us ordering off the fixed menu and 1 from the main menu. The min desserts were just the right amount of decadence to finish off the meal. We all left feeling satisfied but not stuffed as so often happens. It was a great night and we would go back again.
Took my daughter and son-in law out for dinner for their anniversary. The food and service was great. We were seated immediately upon arrival and started off with great glass of wine. Our server, Cynthia, was able to tell us about any of the entrees and specials. Two of the party picked off the fixed menu and one off the main menu. Everything was delicious and just the right amount of food. Didn't leave feeling hungry or stuffed. The mini desserts were a great finish to the meal. Just a taste of decadence.
I am SO glad we stopped here last night. The last time I was in this building was many, many years ago when it was an old family style restaurant where they just kept bringing you food in pots off the stove. Last night was incredible. We had a great local wine served by a very friendly bartender while waiting at the bar, and were seated at our table within about 15 minutes. We didn't have the greatest table in the place, but being in the nook by the kitchen means our food arrived hot, and we got to see a lot of interesting dishes pass by. A basket of warm rolls was dropped off at the table. The basket contained two rather small rolls, but in hindsight, I'm glad there wasn't more because I wouldn't have been able to finish my meal if I had more bread. We started by sharing the baked brie. It was excellent. The grilled vegetables were a nice touch and the red pepper jelly was a great compliment to the tangy brie and crispy phyllo. The warm mushroom salad sounded so good we both ordered it. It was incredible and larger than I expected. Great flavour, nice texture, and the goat cheese and balsamic dressing really topped it off. We both ordered the risotto. One with seared scallops, and the other with smoked chicken. Both of these were perfectly cooked, the chicken dish just bordering on being a bit too peppery. The scallops were perfectly cooked. Again, the portions were impressive. For dessert we had the creme brulee and a pecan tart. Both were very well done. The tart had a nice warm filling and a perfect pastry. The creme brulee had a perfectly done crust and the custard was beautiful. I quite enjoyed my cappucino too. Honestly, I could go back today. I'm really looking forward to my next visit.
From the highway you'd think just another on-the-road eatery, but boy are you wrong. We visit the place with the kids, with friends and for work both the summer and winter. It is just a delight to go there. Aim for lunch, the food is as marvelous and the prices are a bit better. If you pass it by on the QEW (and you can't miss it at night), take the next exit and go back there. It is worth it; really, really, worth it.
My husband and 6 year old son stopped by for a late lunch after a trip to Marineland. The food was impressive but our waitress to put it nicely rude. You would think that the owner would hire staff to make you feel comfortable and we were not demanding by any stretch. We would definately eat here again for the food esp. the mussles, but would hope to have better service next time.
A Niagara landmark, the Lake House is a big white shipboard building over looking Lake Ontario from the south shore. The restaurant has a lot of character and a lovely view and that adds to the prices no doubt. Our party of ten went for Sunday brunch in early August'09. Portions were generous to a fault and the service was excellent. (Thanks Lori Anne!) I had the brunch fritata but wished I'd ordered the spinach salad when I saw them. Over all comments from the others suggest that the food could be spicier but that it was fresh and of good quality. The desserts were very good. I think that most people would enjoy a meal at the Lake House.
First time visiting the Lake House as we received a gift certificate from a niece. We booked a reservation just to be safe. The dining room was bright and the view of the lake was awesome. Rhonda was our server and she did a great job explaining the menu and recomendations. The service was prompt and the food was awesome. Portions were very generous and there were no complaints from our party. We were impressed by the menu selection as it had something for everybody, The desert mini's were one of my favorites, not too filling, just enough to satisfy. My wife had a pecan tart for desert, it was like a mini pizza! It was served warm with a scoop of vailla ice cream, it was very good. Rhonda made our dinner very enjoyable as she met all our needs and requests. On our way out Asst.Mgr Marija stopped us to and asked if we were satisfied with our dinner. It was very freshing to have staff that cared. Good job Lake House. Our dinner was well worth the 1 hour drive. We will be recommneding as well as returning soon, with more friends.
I hope it improved by now, but we were there over a year ago and not since then. The pasta dishes we ordered were cold and dry with very little shrimp in it. When we complained the server said that is the way they always serve pasta. We usually don't complain but when you pay a high price for a pasta dish, you expect it to be perfect. It was a busy night so they sat us in a dark corner with not much to see.
What is up with this restaurant? They have a decent menu. They have great waiters. They have decent prices. Yet they screw it up with the person -its hard to call her a maitre d' - who shows a patron (who has made the trouble of reserving a table to ensure we get a window seat) the worst table in an almost empty restaurant. I really don't get it. And when this maitre d' imitation was asked why she would show us this table when there were six windows tables empty all she could muster was a steely grin and the lame excuse she was trying to even out the work for the waiters. Honey, get it through your skull - the restaurant is there for the client not the waiters and one of the reasons people go there is because of the lake view, not to sit at the back. Other than that irritation, the waiter we had was terrific with lots of coffee for our luncheon meeting. Will I go back again - probably not. I hate having to make a fuss to get a better table which should have been offered readily in the first instance.
Had a party of 12 to celebrate a special occasion. It was perfect! They even came out with a special cake for us. Everything was great.
After reading some of the reviews I have to say I was a little worried about going to the Lake House. But I have to say it was an awesome meal. I have had the privilage to eat in some great restaurants from Toronto to Paris to Las Vegas. After going through the menu I noticed the Chicken with a Risotto. But it was with a cream sause and I do not like my food with cream sauces. So I asked the server if I could get a grilled chicken with the wild mushroom risotto instead. Which they did. I also tried the prime rib and it was very tender and melted in your mouth. I had the creme brule and it was one of the better ones I have had. If I was to change anything it would be add more varieties of bottled wine, the lamb I would change to Ontario and yes I would have to agree that they should update the furniture. And I would loose the mediterranean name part. I am still confused on that...
