Will definitely go back again. Great place.
LOL, did anyone else notice that all 25 reviews are from the same crazy person! He goes back and forth from loving it to hating it, saying I'll never be back, and then keeps going back! No wonder the owner asked him not to come back lol. My friends and I eat more meals here than anywhere else in the city. Always great food and great atmosphere...bathrooms do need renovation though
This was the first time I had ever gone to West Town, and I will never be back. The service was truly offensive. We were there for breakfast. It took 15 minutes for our order to be taken, in a very small, almost empty section of the restaurant with 2 servers. Unbelievably, our server was management of some kind - too busy discussing management matters with 2 other staff members at the bar to take care of her customers. Our server was rude and slow, even going so far as to begin walking away from me as I started to tell her my order. She never brought out my friend's pancakes, and when we asked her for them, she said nothing - literally nothing, and definitely no apology. When she started topping up bowls of creamers rather than taking our credit card to process our payment (after 15 minutes of waiting for her to take it from the table) we were truly in shock. I have worked as a server, and as a result I am not a customer with unreasonable expectations, or one that is hard to please. We would have complained, but she was part of management!! This experience was the opposite of service and you couldn't pay me to go back.
Cheap, cheerfull and unpretentious, unlike most fo the establishments on Locke Street. The place was pretty busy but service was quick and efficient, the burger was as good as you'd get anywhere else and the fries were good (though should really be included in the price fo the burger I think).
So, why do people go to West Town? This was our third time here and it just got worse each time we went. This last visit we had Calamari and wings. Calamari came with a Chipotle mayo, mayo is the optimum word, no flavor at all. Calamari was over cooked and rubbery. Wings, small and tough. If you cant do wings, maybe time for a new Chef? My vodka and 7 had a slight hint of coffee, I think they used the same shot glass they used to measure a coffee liquor maybe? My second one came out fine. The best thing I can say is my lime in my drink was fresh. Sorry West Town, 3 strikes, you're out!
What happened to West Town? Why is this place so BAD now and yet once it used to be so good? I have eaten in this place well over 100 times and most days everything was good. But first Saturday night in November my dining experience with a friend turned into a complete DISASTER. My food was BURNED. My food was 40 minutes LATE. My friend has to wait 15 minutes for a beer. The worse part is that the owner manager would not own up to anything and was very defensive and not even once said he was sorry. In fact he said that I was a liar when I said the table next to us who came in way after us got their food before me. I am NEVER coming back. Food is BAD , service is BAD and management is HORRENDOUS.
The waitress had to be reminded about missed items twice and complained that she was so busy when the section we were in was 2/3rds empty. When I asked to speak to the manager a member of the owners family came over and defended the waitresses behaviour and asked us to pay our bill and leave. When I went back today to try to talk to someone else the same person was on duty. When I didn't immediately recognize him he asked me if I had frequent blackout. He insisted the restaurant was at capacity that evening and was glad I was never coming again. A most unusual atttitude to customer (dis)service.
I have heard ''you don't go for the food" several times when people speak about west town and i find that this is not entirely true. i was pleasantly surprised when i ordered a to-die-for savoury steak off the special menu and my wife had ordered their beef ribs with wings special. The portions were generous and the quality was top-notch. Moreover, the young waitress was attentive and very friendly (and yes, looked as though she could be a future underwear model given her age). the music was wonderful and the atmosphere was lively. the only thing we found well below par about our experience was the state of the restrooms.
We live in the Locke street area- we learned quickly that this is a great breakfast place...eggs benny or the greek ommelette otherwise, we stay away - all their other menu items are just too greasy.
It's encouraging that Locke street is expanding, as it evidently needs more competition. If I had to guess, I'd say that the only reason the West Town B+G gets as much business as it does (it's always very busy for breakfast) is because it is the only reasonably priced pub on Locke, and also the only place to get a sit-down breakfast. The service there tends to be quite rude (they don't like to be asked for anything), coffee refills are infrequent at best, and it's too expensive for the lackluster quality of food. The only exception to the bad service has been when I've been there at opening (7:30), hence the 3 instead of a 1. If I do return, it will only be because there is so little to choose from in this part of town, and I don't drive.
I eat breakfast, lunch and dinner here probably more than I do at home. It''s always fresh and feels like home cooked meals. The servers are very efficient and friendly. They go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The atmosphere is fantastic. It''s amazing that this place is rammed 7 nights/week and doesn''t need a doorman. I''ve been going there at least twice a week for over ten years and have never witnessed a fight. You get the feeling that everybody knows each other and rude obnoxious behaviour is just not tolerated. The vibe is so unique that its no wonder that you frequently see celebrities in this little pub. They all hang out without being bothered.
nothing special, not bad but didn't live up to the hype
If you are going for Dinner make sure to order off of the special board as it is always fresh. The rest of the menu is frozen. If they have prime rib or beef tenderloin I highly recommend it as it is extremly high quality meat for the price. The beers on tap all taste great as they do an excellent job of maintianing the the lines. Service is great if you are a regular unsure how it is for others.
The toast, eggs and potatoes were fine. The sausage was not your standard breakfast sausage fare; while good, it would be better suited to dinner with mustard. The waffle was served hot, but was fairly undercooked and tasted too much like pancake batter to finish. The coffee, however, was always full - Almost full marks for service. We might return, as the prices seemed reasonable and there isn't much on Locke street for a cheap breakfast, but we would definitely order different food.
On a previous visit to West Town I had ordered the grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. On that occassion I was given a choice of breads, on which to have my sandwich. This time there was no such courtesy, and my sandwich came, cold I migh add, on cheap, nasty white bread. My fries had also been forgotten, and the waitress seemed somewhat miffed when I pointed that fact out. The fires, when they did come, were decent, and that is the only reason I have gone as high as a 3 for the food. The service was abysmal, and my sandwich was, quite simply, the worst I have eaten in many a year.
I used to go here for pizza once a month. Nice atmosphere, loved the cozy booth by the window. Made the mistake of ordering the fish and chips. The fish brought to me was stone cold. Literally. No apology from the waitress but she informed me I wouldn't have to pay. Darn right I wouldn't and asked her what do I get for this huge error in food preparation? Got 1 free beer. Whoopee do! Will never go back.
The food, order and delivery was prompt, well prepared and delicious. The atmosphere on Locke St. feels somewhat like a trendy Toronto neighbourhood greasy spoon. However the other clientel this evening having a wedding reception were particularly rude. Pushing us out of the way upon arrival in the small, cute lobby and yacking on their cellphones in the dining room for patrons not participating in the wedding. What a buncha jerks! Our server took a while to notice our arrival. Not uncommon on a holiday with a booking for a private party. Acceptable wait time. This may seem like it is negative review however little was the fault of the restaurant. The faire was exceptionally well priced, delivered promptly and tasted great. Our seat by the window was still cozy despite the early April weather being a tad cool. The last negative was our server asking us after we'd finished paying if we were "OK". We were fine however not in a rush to get out into the cool. This was not a very hospitable service and made us feel unwelcome. I will definitely return however this particular visit, on Good Friday, lacked a few customer service polishes that would make an otherwise great restaurant one of my favourites in the city.
The food is just great and I love the music that is played. Also really enjoyed the band there on July 1st.
This place is *always* packed for breakfast, and is considered by many to be the quintessential greasy spoon of the neighbourhood. Lots of choices on the menu (NB: fresh fruit is often unavailable, unfortunately), and good-sized portions. Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere... we probably go there at least twice a month.
Oustanding menu - specials were truly special not just price reduced Service was quick, polite & enjoyable A definte keeper
