My wife and I went down to Yaletown for dinner but unfortunately almost every restaurant was full and we got stuck going to the Blue Water Cafe. Although we had heard good things about the restaurant we were not impressed. The food is overpriced, the restaurant is very pretentious and the staff were unfriendly. We will never go again.

Hip places to sip on a glass of wine in Vancouver's Yaletown

Hip places to sip on a glass of wine in Vancouver's Yaletown

For a restaurant that’s right on the water in Yaletown, you’ll have a hard time not thinking you’re dining on a luxury liner in the middle of the Pacific. The seafood is incredibly fresh, from the albacore tuna carpaccio to the Blue Water Café tower (spicy tuna roll, fresh crab meat roll, tuna goma-ae, chilled lobster). Narrowing down the wine to pair with your food will be a challenge. Variety is on your side with 1,000 labels and 14,000 bottles in the cellar.

East meets West at this award-winning Japanese inspired seafood restaurant in Yaletown. Fine china and white tablecloths give the space an elegant feel, but the exposed brick walls and wooden beams give it an industrial edge. The kitchen serves up fresh seafood and sushi complemented by a spectacular wine list, which features more than 1,000 handpicked labels from local B.C. vineyards and celebrated wineries from around the world. If it’s warm enough, ask for a seat on the picturesque patio that’s decked out with leafy planter boxes and twinkling lights.

    Vancouver restaurants serving spot prawns

Swank seafood is done right at this venerable dining room in Yaletown. Gorgeous design, impeccable service and a diverse menu make this an ideal venue for a romantic date-night or lavish evening out with clients you want to impress. The tiered seafood towers – which feature an assortment of chilled shellfish and bivalves on ice – are a sight to be seen, while the caviar plates are well worth the indulgence. When in season, large, firm-fleshed spot prawns can be selected from the Blue Water’s live tanks or enjoyed in a variety of special feature dishes.
