Another of Edmonton’s fantastic Mexican offerings, Rostizado is located in the heart of the Ice District, across the street from the new Roger’s Place arena. Infamous for their family style, Mexican rotisserie, Rostizado also serves up some fabulous roasted cauliflower pan roasted in pork fat, lime juice and cumin seeds, with chile de árbol, garlic and cilantro. Yum!
Rostizado may have been the first restaurant in Edmonton to take mescal seriously. They use it in bebidas, which is the Spanish word for tropical cocktails. If you like beachy cocktails, theirs are done really well. Their tamarind margarita is great. I know tamarind is kind of an acquired taste but I like its sourness and grime. I want to try the La Bonita cocktail next. It uses both mescal and tequila, fresh pineapple, cilantro, lime-chili infused mango nectar and agave syrup.
Owned by the same people behind Tres Carnales, Rostizado is a Mexican restaurant known for its homestyle platters of slow-roasted meats. It also serves up a mean sangria. The cava sangria is a blend of tequila blanco (a bold-tasting tequila that is un-aged or aged less than two months), Cointreau and fresh lime. This refreshing take on a classic drink comes by the glass, and is a lovely complement to ceviche, tamales, gorditas or roast chicken.
