Why do I feel exhausted and weak?

November 23, 2014

Do you feel tired, exhausted and weak? Do you lack motivation? Here are a few reasons why you may be feeling this way.

Why do I feel exhausted and weak?

Sleep deprivation

Most people think the contributing factor to their exhaustion is lack of sleep. While this may be the case, there could be several reasons that you are not sleeping well. It may be the noise of others in the household, it could be that your mattress is no longer supporting you properly or you may not be giving your body all the rest it requires.

Poor nutrition

Choosing to eat unhealthy foods can lead to physical exhaustion. Not giving your body the nutrients it needs can leave you feeling weak. Additional preservatives, unhealthy fats, caffeine and sugars can make your body crash after their initial boost they gave you.

Lack of physical activity

Spending too much time sitting or lying down can really take a toll on your stamina. You can end up tired just by taking time to relax.

How to overcome exhaustion

  • Ensure you get a full eight hours of sleep each night. Whether it means going to bed earlier, wearing ear plugs and a sleep mask, or buying a new bed set, you want to wake refreshed and ready to tackle the day.
  • Make healthy diet choices. Find foods rich in vitamins and minerals, especially iron, to keep your body in tip top shape.
  • Drink lots of water. It will help flush toxins from your body and keep you hydrated.
  • Get moving! Whether this means heading outside for some fresh air and a stroll or grabbing the vacuum and pushing it around the house, a little activity can go a long way.
  • Pack your lunch. Chances are you will pack healthier items than the fast food options available.
  • Keep a full water bottle within reach. As listed above, it is important to stay hydrated.
  • Wear a pedometre and track how many steps you take. Try to up it everyday.

If you find these changes are not making an impact and that you are still experiencing the feeling of exhaustion and weakness, it is best to get a professional evaluation.
