Whether you have a cold or are just feeling cold, soup is always the quickest fix. These Edmonton spots have a fantastic variety of brothy delights, ranging from Thai delicacies to homemade chicken noodle soup just like your mom made you during your childhood.
Although they are mostly known for their crepes, their French onion soup is also the stuff of legend. It’s not too salty, but is still full of flavour. It’s hearty enough to eat as a satisfying lunch, with plenty of bread and a blend of mozzarella, Swiss and Gruyere cheeses — but not so much that the broth is overpowered. They also have a solid seafood chowder made with mussels, shrimp, salmon and scallops, as well as a lovely wild mushroom soup.
There’s usually no soup on the set menu, just a daily soup creation from the kitchen that changes constantly. But, whether it’s chicken noodle, tomato or cream of mushroom, it’s made fresh in-house and it tastes so good you’ll wonder if your mamma is back in the kitchen making it herself.
Their mouth-watering soups are so reasonably priced and come in such huge portions. There’s a variety of options, including the popular won ton soup and tom yum soup but my personal favourite is the tom-ga-tee. The milky, coconut-based broth is rich and soothing, and the tender chicken and plump, chewy mushrooms add texture. Most of the soups have the option of choosing chicken, shrimp or seafood and mushrooms, so you can customize to your liking.
Soup comes in cup or double cup portions here. Whether you go for the classic split pea with smoked bacon and ham or the homemade chicken soup, you’ll be satisfied. Plus, the prices are really reasonable and the soup will warm your soul and stomach in a hurry.
This cute café does a ton of different soups, and their menu varies daily as they make the soup from scratch. Past favourites include the tomato spinach, black bean, corn chowder, cream of cauliflower, red lentil, carrot ginger and borscht. In addition to serving up soup with their sandwiches, they also sell it by the litre so you can enjoy it at home. You can even pretend you made it yourself – we won’t tell anyone.
This cozy Asian grill gets killer word of mouth, and for good reason – the food is truly authentic and fresh. They serve a variety of soups, including beef pho and tom yum soup. While the portions are a bit smaller than places that specialize in pho, the taste and the quality of the ingredients make up for it.
