Beer Bistro has really got mussels down to a fine art. Diners can choose from five flavours of broth ranging from Spicy Red Thai to New England style cream sauce. Steaming pots of mussels are accompanied by a loaf of fresh-baked bread to sop up those delicious flavours, and the menu's suggested beer pairings make it about as easy as it gets to have the full experience.
At this downtown brasserie, mussels come as an entree along with frites. Bier Markt offers beer pairing suggestions, but rather than specific beers, they recommend general types, leaving you to choose the brand you prefer. And, with six broth options, every taste is covered. The Alsatian broth is a good bet.
Allen’s, as usual, keeps things simple, but delicious, with mussels served in a classic white wine broth prepared with leeks and garlic. While this pub does not offer any beer pairing suggestions, the beer list is extensive and includes a rather substantial number of Belgians.
Bar Hop flies under the radar, but delivers with four different broths for their mussels, including an incredible Lager Jerk broth. It’s a guarantee you’ll find the perfect beer pairing on their extensive beer list, as well.
