Places in Toronto to relive your favourite movie scene

We all know that Toronto is Hollywood north and that the Distillery District has been used in approximately 300 different movies. But where can you sit down, grab a bite and recite the lines from your favourite character in a movie? Look no further than this list.

The King Edward Hotel

1
37 King St E, Toronto, ON M5C 1E9

The Consort Bar in the classic King Street hotel is in a scene in American Psycho when Patrick Batemen (Christian Bale) is at a Gentlemen’s Club with Luis Carruthers (Matt Ross) and comes close to killing him at the sight of his new business card.

Blue Goose Tavern

2
1 Blue Goose St, Etobicoke, ON M8V 2R5

The Blue Goose in Etobicoke is over 100 years old, and has seen its share of scenes, with Canadian movies like Men With Brooms and American institutions like American Pie 6 filming there over the years. Numerous Canadian television series also use the bar and grill for filming.

The Lakeview

3
1132 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M6J 1X2

This Dundas near Ossington eatery is the location for a sexually charged scene over martinis between Michelle Williams and Luke Kirby in the Sarah Polley film, Take This Waltz. While the martini part is probably going to be unlikely, you can at least enjoy a beer or a glass of wine and some classic eats at this 90-year-old-restaurant.

Ted's Restaurant

4
404 Old Kingston Rd, Scarborough, ON M1C 1B6

This spot in the very east corner of Scarborough—Highland Creek, no less—has a classic diner set-up that lends itself to movie sets. It’s worth the drive out there for the greasy spoon experience, the history and the opportunity to relive a Pushing Tin scene with Angelina Jolie and Kevin Costner.

The Silver Dollar Room

5
486 Spadina Ave, Toronto, ON M5S 2H1

The Silver Dollar Room on Spadina has doubled as the Blue Oyster Bar, in a famous scene during the original Police Academy with Steve Guttenberg, and also as a Chicago blues bar in another 80s classic, Adventures in Babysitting.

Pizza Pizza

6
558 Bloor Street West, Toronto, ON M6G 1K1

The store at Bloor & Bathurst was in the original graphic novel series, and therefore had to be used for a scene in the movie version of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Not the most romantic or iconic of venues, but worth a visit if you’re a fan of the Scott Pilgrim series.

Cafe Diplomatico Catering

7
594 College St, Toronto, ON M6G 1B3

Located in Little Italy, this café has long been a place one goes to see and be seen. Atom Egoyan’s erotic thriller, Chloe, filmed a scene there, so you can go and enjoy a cappuccino and imagine Amanda Seyfried, Julianne Moore and Liam Neeson right there with you.

With its cobblestone streets, beautiful stone buildings and appreciation for fine cuisine, Quebec City is a refined place. What better setting to treat yourself to a glass of champagne? Whether you want a cozy vibe or the grand rooms of an old hotel, Quebec City is just the place for you.
Toronto’s posh Yorkville neighbourhood may sometimes seem intimidating, but you'll find there are plenty of welcoming places where you can relax with a fine beer. The area's robust patio offerings make post-work pints a must. Don’t forget that it's also a prime hood for a little casual TIFF-ing – people-watching here might result in a few celebrity sightings.
Hitting the TIFF morning events and in search of a pre- or post-show breakfast? These classy-meets-casual brunch joints are steps away from the Bell Lightbox, on bustling King West. Whether you’re a Bay Street local or a film buff in search of some morning grub and daytime cocktail, these spots will keep you fuelled during the festival. [Image credit: iStock.com/golero]
