As Montrealers, we’ve all had a craving for a good steamy, more commonly known as a hotdog. Many restaurants have caught on to these hankerings and stepped up their sausage-and-bun game. Here are our picks for the tastiest gourmet hotdogs Montreal has to offer.
This trendy oyster bar on The Main is best known for its delicious selection of oysters and cocktails, but don’t overlook its very impressive dog. Meant to be shared, Le Majestique's 12-inch piglet sausage is wrapped in a Hof Kelsten bun, and covered with fried leeks and red cabbage, lemon mayonnaise with a touch of spice, green apple and, of course, mustard.
Frites Alors is famous for its European-style fries and one-of-a-kind sauces – it’s difficult to settle for only one. If you’re looking for a meaty addition to complement your fries, try one of their almost-as-famous hot dogs. The Merguez Baguette, for example, contains a Merguez Sausage, a cucumber and tomato salad and the classic Frites Alors Sauce (mayo, harissa, garlic).
If you’re ever in the West Island, be sure to check out Jukebox Burgers near the Marché de l’Ouest – this ‘50s style diner will blow your mind. Not only do they serve up some inventive, fresh burgers and shakes, but they also have a full hotdog menu with items such as the Hawaiian – a hotdog topped with pineapple, bacon, jalapeños, apple coleslaw, and spicy mayo.
