And, they focus solely on hair, so you’ll have their full attention every time you come in for a cut, colour or style job.

Located in the Roots on Whyte building, Echo Hair Design was built to be natural from the start – the building only houses green, organic businesses with no toxins. The salon uses Intelligent Nutrients hair products and Organic Colour dyes, which use coconut oil instead of ammonia to open to the hair shaft, allowing colour to soak in. Plus, the prices are comparable to other salons. And, the studio even has a “breathing wall,” made from American clay. It naturally absorbs odours and releases moisture, cutting down on any unnatural smells from hair products.

Not only are the products here eco-chic, but the salon itself is also made from sustainable products, including the floors, which are made from repurposed wood from old Alberta grain elevators. The chairs where you sit to have your hair blow-dried are vintage, and the chandeliers are from a thrift store. While the salon isn’t 100 per cent organic, they do offer paraben-free products, such as Kevin Murphy, and ammonia-free colour lines, such as Koko.

Located on the main floor of an iconic yellow mansion in Summerside, Melange uses organic, natural and non-toxic hair products. They carry products from Kevin Murphy, Intelligent Nutrients and Curelle. The salon even has a 100 per cent chemical-free head lice treatment from the brand Ladibugs. And, for those concerned about chemicals in hair dye, the salon uses Essensity, an ammonia and fragrance free hair colour made with more than 90 per cent naturally derived, organic ingredients.

This salon is a member of the Green Circle program, a company that recycles what would otherwise be thrown away by salons, and promotes hair studios that meet certain environmental and sustainable standards. Adara Hair recycles the majority of its waste, including excess packaging, hair treatment chemicals, tin foil and hair clippings. They also offer a refill bar, where customers can bring in their own reusable bottles and fill up on shampoo, conditioner and hairstyling products. Plus, all of the products they carry are approved by PETA.
