Find the flavours of Mexico at Montreal’s top Mexican restos

Mexico may seem far – especially when it’s so cold outside – but there is a quick, easy way to visit this sunny country with its unique flavours. Our trick? Dining at authentic Mexican restaurants right here in the city!

El Sabor De Mexico

1
5013, rue Wellington, Verdun, QC H4G 1Y1

This place is a portal to the traditional. As an apéritif: go for the Margarita or the Michelada; a combination of Mexican beer, lime juice, Clamato, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco sauce and spices. I loved it! As for food, I recommend the ceviche, guacamole, the shrimp in tequila ... and you just have to try the rice, it tastes heavenly!

Tejano BBQ Burrito

2
511, rue de Courcelle, Montréal, QC H4C 3C1

Choose your burrito tortilla made from wheat, white, salad or bol tostada, add your hot ingredients (Spanish rice, black beans and hominy, fried pinto beans, smoked chicken, spicy pulled pork, chorizo, BBQ beef with Ancho cumin), then fresh ingredients (guacamole, sour cream, salsa with grilled tomatoes, hot chipotle-arbol sauce, cabbage salad with lime, pickled jalapenos, pickled onions, sliced radishes, peppers, cheddar cheese, pico de gallo, lettuce) and there you go: it’s ready! Quick and very tasty.

Grumman 78

3
630 Rue De Courcelle, Montréal, QC H4C 3C5

I’ll let you in on a secret: it was in their food truck five years ago that I first tasted a taco with something other than ground beef! I love their feta pimenton tacos, with braised red beans, sweet peppers, radish salad and feta. And mention should be made of the banh mi with shredded pork, hoisin sauce, pickled daikon and carrots. I really have difficulty not ordering them when they’re on the menu!

Restaurant El Méson

4
1678, boul Saint-Joseph, Lachine, QC H8S 2N1

The traditional menu includes one of my favourites: sopa de tortillas. As a starter, why not indulge in a pickled cactus salad with lime juice served on a bed of salad with fresh cream cheese. As a main, move on to the tacos, fajitas, enchiladas and more. And here’s a well-kept secret: there’s a lovely little terrace out back!

Tacos Victor

5
4376, rue Notre-Dame O, Montréal, QC H4C 1R8

In this friendly taco bar, you'll find six varieties of the Mexican staple: steak, chorizo, shrimp, veggie, tongue and striploin. Add to this the taquito and homemade juices, and you have the ideal venue for a quick evening meet-up!

Whether you suffer from celiac disease, gluten sensitivity, or if you’ve simply opted for a gluten-free lifestyle, it’s not always easy to find a restaurant that respects these limitations. Here are a few tips on where to eat well in town without inviting gluten to the table.
I like – no, I should say I love – Portuguese food. It’s like a burst of sunshine in my mouth! Luckily, Montreal has some fantastic establishments that put delicious, authentic Portuguese cuisine on the table for all to try. Start your culinary journey with any of these restos and you’ll be hooked!
