Kitchener is a Canadian city situated south-west of Ontario. Formerly known as Berlin from 1914-1916, the name Kitchener was chosen as an homage to Herbert Kitchener, a Secretary of State during the First World War. The population of Kitchener is 204, 668 comprised of people of German, English, French, Polish, Dutch, Portuguese and Italian descent.
German culture is honoured during Kitchener-Waterloo’s Oktoberfest, one of the biggest festivals to take place in the city.
