Alan Sandoval grew up about an hour outside of Mexico City. When he was a teenager, he worked for his uncle in a restaurant and fell in love with all things culinary. It led him to work in restaurants in the Mayan Riviera, including Cancun. He moved to Canada in 2006 and continued working in restaurants, but he always had the itch to be his own boss. “I kept saying next year, next year. Finally, I said now. I have to do it now. I can’t wait,” says Alan. In 2016, he opened Taco Bar on Monkland Ave. “Half of the menu is from Mexico City. The other half is from the Mayan Riviera. I took the best plates from every local city and put them together," he says.
He moved to Monkland in 2014 and loved the area and the people. That helped motivate him to want to open Taco Bar there. “I live a couple of blocks from work,” says Alan. “People are very nice. There are a lot of families. It’s residential, but even the business people are very nice. We all know and support each other.”
