For some people, dreams do come true — even if it means taking a circuitous route. Dana Elsliger, owner of La Bistrote, a cozy little eatery located in up-and-coming Griffintown, has loved to cook since she was a little girl. Innately creative, she studied creative arts at John Abbott College. Practical as well as creative, Dana wanted a career doing something she loved, but made her highly employable as well.
That goal sent her from her hometown of Hudson to downtown Montreal when she was 18 to attend cooking school at LaSalle College. “I had a friend in the same program and he kind of encouraged me to do it,” says the cheerful entrepreneur and chef. “I loved it and since then, I’ve never had any other job than in a restaurant.”
But the road to her dream of owning her own business was filled with many twists and turns, all of which gave her the skills and know-how to make La Bistrote a success.

Wow, this place is great! Charming and cozy decor, really down-to-earth. And the food (oven-heated sandwiches, meal salads, pizzas, two weekly alternating dishes, soup and salad of the day, etc. etc...) is simply delicious, all prepared fresh. Been there a few times now, always impressed!!!

La Bistrote on Notre-Dame, in Griffintown, boasts a friendly atmosphere for a quick breakfast or lunch. Their Western Sandwich is particularly noteworthy, made with eggs, bacon, cheese, peppers, green onions and basil-mayo on ciabatta bread, all at a reasonable price.
