While Sugar Loaf Bakery is locatednear Queen and Broadview in Riverside, its namesake – Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain) – is located hundreds of kilometres further south in Brazil. It's also where owners Rinaldo Angelicola and Ana Melaragni first lived before coming to Canada.
When husband-and-wife duo Rinaldo and Ana moved to Toronto from Brazil so he could attend an MBA program, at first, Ana wasn’t sure what she’d do. Previously an advertising account director, she always had a passion for baking so she enrolled in George Brown’s baking and pastry arts management program. Meanwhile, for his MBA, Rinaldo had to develop a plan for a new business. “I developed a new business venture for a bakery,” he remembers.
The husband and wife duo teamed up with pastry chef Hardy Sugiarto to open Sugar Loaf Bakery, making Ana'spassion and Rinaldo's business plan a reality.
