Little Portugal is not the most obvious travel destination for modernist design.
But SOUVENIR – the meticulous, all-white housewares boutique, design studio and event space – hopes to change that with its collection of well-curated goods like ceramics, fragrances and furniture. The space is also a venue for one-off events like workshops and pop-ups, and it houses owner and creative director Danielle Suppa’s design practice to boot.
“We keep joking that we’re a design community centre,” says Danielle Suppa, laughing. She runs the space with long-time friend Trisha Lepper (brand partner at SOUVENIR), whom she met at fashion school. Formerly a Mexican restaurant, the space intuitively felt right for the pair, who snatched it up quickly and pulled off a three-week renovation, which consisted of about 20 cans of white paint.
A new design studio opened by graphic and textile designer Danielle Suppa, Souvenir is a gift shop that offers a range of swoon-worthy lifestyle goods, including jewellery, home accessories, ceramics, and leather and textile goods. For a more #treatyourself vibe, there are also candles, skin and body care products, stationery, rugs and furniture. And despite their eye-catching beauty, the pieces are a lot more affordable than you’d think. The bright space also offers other artists a venue to teach and exhibit their crafts that range from paintings to looming classes.
