When Jason Lee graduated from college and showed up for his first day of work as the general manager of his parents’ eatery, Korean Village Restaurant, he was expecting to get shown to an office. “But my mother gives me a mop and says ‘go clean the washroom,’” he remembers. “That was my first task working here. I was humbled.”
The dedicated work ethic of his mother and father, both co-founders of Korean Village Restaurant, is what has kept the eatery going strong since it first opened in 1978. When the restaurant is busy, Jason’s mother still helps out with clearing and setting tables. “If someone from the kitchen calls in sick, she’ll be the first one to put on an apron, whether it’s to wash dishes, prep or cook,” Jason explains. “The one thing I learned from my mom is leading by example. So if my mother has to do those things, I’ll do those things. No questions asked.”

Service was exceptional!!! The owner of the restaurant and his wife (I wish we asked for their names but unfortunately didn’t) were extremely nice the whole time! Also accommodated really well for a nut allergy, which is uncommon in my experience, so big thanks go to their chefs. The food was incredible. Definitely a must try for Korean BBQ if you’re in the area.
Korean village is the best Korean restaurant in TO. The food, the service, and the atmosphere all get top marks. I lived in Korea for a while, so I'm really particular about my Korean good. Everything I've had, and I've had a lot because I keep going back, has been delicious. I would recommend the BBQ above everything. It's done exactly the same way as I had it in Korea. You get the bbq on the table and it comes with all the right sides. It's both a fun experience and tastes so great! The service is fantastic! Very kind owner and owners son. They are welcoming and they really want to ensure that you enjoy the time there. I can't get enough! Also, amazing kimchi!
My boyfriend took me here for my birthday because he heard the food is not bad. We walk in at around 8:30pm on a Wednesday so they're not really too busy. The door rings when customers go in but the lady at the front desk blatantly ignored us as we stood there awkwardly. My boyfriend decided to approach her and told her we'd like a table for 2 in Korean. She told us to wait and went back to whatever she was busy with. Then she began to serve other customers, all Caucasians, with a very friendly attitude, totally different than she treated us. We stood there for a bit longer while 2 other waiters saw us and also blatantly ignored us. We walked out of the place but this completely ruined our mood for the evening and on top of that it was my birthday too... So unless you're Caucasian, don't go there and put yourself through what we went through.
Awesome service! Great food, thumbs up!
good food and looks nice. this is probably one of the best restaurants on korean town. although the prices can be hurting sometimes. but yeah this is more of a formal place compared to the other fast eats on korean town.
Amazing! This restaurant is the original korean food restaurant! not like fake korean grill bbq owned by chinese ppl!!
Second time we have ventured here for an excellent meal, has a very authentic feel, relaxing and very enjoyable. Seafood BBQ best i have had in long time, shrimp and squid were excellent, marinated beef BBQ excellent as well. Will definitely go agian
Great food! A few friends and I decided that we were needing to expand our horizons as far as eating out. I had tried Korean food last yr for the first time in Korea of all places. Enjoyed much of it and especially liked bulgogi. So we checked restaurantica for reviews....difficult to pick one though decided on the "korean Village Han Kuk Kwan". We arrived arround 6 pm to the smooth sounds of Billy Ocean and a maze of fake plants and "stuff". We almost backed out though glad we didn't. The food was great! We ordered a variety of meats on the bulgogi menu. A great selection of banchan arrived at the table, followed by out friendly waitress with the grill. She was very helpful in describing the various dishes and coming back to the table to check on the meat and reminding us that "it is done". In regards to past reviewers..the meat was not over marinaded and the size of the panchan is small however replaced quickly and not over charged for it. Overall I was really pleased with the meal. Yes the atmosphere is not "up scale" but who cares. As dinner wore on the crowd grew..including some drunk Korean businessmen. The music didn't get any better though I felt like i were back in Seoul..drunk business men and pop music. We will be back.
This is my new favourite Korean restaurant in Toronto! The food was delicious and the restaurant itself was a lot nicer than many of the other Korean restaurants along that strip. We felt a bit rushed when it came to ordering (the waitress came to our table to take our order several times within the span of 5 minutes) but maybe that was just because she wanted to make sure we weren't waiting to place our order. I read one of the other reviewers complaining about the serving sizes of the pan-chan (small side dishes that accompany every meal). Small serving sizes of pan-chan is customary with Korean dining; you can always ask for refills on whatever pan-chan you run out of. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant!
The people may not be as 'slick' as some other upscale restaurants but they are very friendly. And the food is even better. I always have a great time whenever I go there.
The portion for 2 people was pathetic. I felt hungry and ripped off after eating at korean village. The meat was old and over marinaded, like it had been sitting around for ages, it was soft and mushy. The panchan portion was so pathetic! About a tablepoon of each between two people!! What a rip off this place was, I will never go there again, to be ripped off so badly!!
We had a difficult time communicating with our waitress because of language issues but it didn't really matter. The food was sensational. The little complimentary dishes are fantastic and all of our food was very fresh and delicious. The servings are huge and the value great.

The kong na mul — or pickled bean sprouts, for the non-natives about the place — set up expectations for some truly fine Korean cuisine to follow. These seasoned soybean sprouts mixed with garlic, hot pepper flakes and green onions are a common Korean side dish, and this Annex joint does them up real nice.
View this Smart ListWhen you want a true array of Korean BBQ with sides and service equally amazing, you come here. The kimchi is zesty and pickled just right, while the hot stone bowl comes with the added bonus of cheese. The best finishing touch? A lollipop after your meal.
