Jewel Envy was established in 2006 as a studio/boutique store located at Spadina and Adelaide. After six successful years in this location Jewel Envy was at capacity for membership, classes, and had outgrown the retail space. In the summer of 2012, Gillian E. What a fun place! So neat to see all the machines and cool creative people working away. And so nice to get to meet the person who designed and made my necklace! Every time I wear my swirly necklace I get lots of compliments, it's such an original piece.
Gillian, the business owner, redesigned a ring for me from old jewellery that was sitting unworn in a drawer. She listened to my ideas and gave me several beautiful designs to choose from. The ring was made in a timely fashion and I now can proudly wear a more modern piece that gets numerous compliments from my friends and others that see it.
My wife and I got our wedding bands from Jewel Envy. We were wanting something unique and chose mokume gane rings (a special technique that layers metals). The goldsmith that helped us did a fantastic job for a reasonable price and, most importantly, met our semi-tight deadline. Would recommend them to anyone.
Owner Gillian E. Batcher has built a diamond in the rough by transforming a run down Roncesvalles rooming house into a 2,000 square foot jewellery studio and retail store. The store’s showroom displays a selection of one-of-a-kind pieces made onsite by resident goldsmiths as well as colourful baubles from Gillian’s own line PASH. The resident jewellers also consult with clients on customized designs, offer repair services and teach classes on beginner and intermediate goldsmithing techniques
