The pristine display cases at Delysèes Authentic French Bakery are lined with savoury mini sandwiches and baguettes, flaky croissants and rolls, artisanal cakes and éclairs. However, the real speciality of the bakery, and it’s hard to pick just one, is the macaron.
The brightly coloured, perfectly round French delicacies are arranged in neat lines and come in enough flavours to satisfy even the pickiest eater. In fact, Fred Naggar, the creative mind behind Delysèes, says that with the help of his team, the bakery has devised 42 unique macaron flavours, one of the biggest selections in Canada.
Fred describes his baking style as “classic with a twist,” which is why along with well-known favourites, including milk chocolate and Madagascar vanilla, customers can choose from apricot black tea, banana caramel, lime basil, and praline crunch macarons.
He points to the birthday cake macaron, a cornflower-blue confection with rainbow sprinkles inside. “It’s unbelievable,” he says, “it brings back childhood.” The roasted pistachio is another favourite, with chunks of real, fresh nuts baked right into it.
It’s a big change from the nine classic flavours that Delysèes offered when it first opened. “We would bring in a new flavour and people would eat it up, immediately,” says Fred. “They’re always looking for something new.”
Delysees is a modern French bakery with white walls, contemporary furnishings and a long glass pastry case stocked full of sleek French treats. Éclairs are elegantly decorated and come beautifully packaged, the perfect gift for the dessert lover in your life. The Gianda Gold is the pride and joy of Delysees’ éclair lineup, a golden-painted éclair with a hazelnut ganache filling. It’s so beautiful it’s almost a shame to eat (almost).
This bakery and café sells some of the most delicious desserts in town. You can take a seat in the modern-style bakery and enjoy macrons, cupcakes and éclairs.
Who doesn’t love half a dozen marcons for the price of $13? At Delysees, you can find everything from croissants to sandwiches to mini cakes. But if you haven’t tried the maracons, it seems that owner Fred doesn’t mind giving new patrons a free taste, (he’s been known to offer up a salted caramel with your box of pastries).
