I've been hearing about this place for a long time and finally got there with some friends. What a disappointing experience, and pricey for what we got.
Too many staff standing around not caring about the customers. Food that is tasteless, and portions that left me hungry. The healthy special is a joke - its a sandwich. One of my friends had a salad that barely covered the plate (for about $8). My wrap was a flat thing that had no flavor.
I heard they are opening another restaurant - hopefully it will be better than this place.
Ownership has changed, new name. Please wipe all old reviews and come in for the best experience down at the waterfront. Great coffee, great food, and exceptional service!

Love It!!!!
I am a frequent customer of Alternate Grounds Cafe for the last 4 years. The quality and Service has always been exceptional since Brian and Tammy took over, and their staff have always been pleasant and accommodating.
The Soups and Salads are by far some of the best in the city.....they are always fresh and homemade and the prices are cheaper than what you would pay at most places in town.
The Cafe offers full table service on weekends and although in the beginning there were some kinks to work out...they really have a grip on it now. The weekend breakfast specials are fantastic and you can't get them anywhere else in town.
In regards to the previous Review about their "healthy" options......if you actually asked questions you would find that everything is done on "weight Watchers " points system and is all done with low or no fat ingredients, which is a little better than their already healthy regular menu. Please note that you WILL NOT find any kind of deep fried product in this building!!!!!
In the summer and winter the Cafe has an exceptional view of the Sarnia Bay and is always better than looking at some kind of building.
The Daily specials and the once a month dinners the cafe are simply fantastic.
I have never stopped going there and will gladly continue to frequent the restaurant
I used to be a frequent patron at this restaurant but hadn't been for awhile. On my recent visit, I was very disappointed.
The food seems to lack flavor and substance. The wrap was mostly wrap with not much filling and the salad barely covered the plate.
I see they have a new "healthy option" but honestly I could't figure out how it was any different from the rest of the menu. Does this mean the other options are unhealthy?
Despite being alot of staff in the restaurant, there were alot of tables covered in dishes and I had to clean my own table before sitting down.
Not sure what has happened here. The prices have gone up and the quality and flavor has gone down. New owner?
The view is nice, but in winter, I'm not sure what this restaurant will have going for it anymore.
i had the normal 2 egg, sausage and hash brown breakfast and it was good, nothing special. the other person i was with got blueberry pancakes that were horrible. they were spice-less and bland.
the service was sort of terrible. we had never been there before, and didnt know it was cafeteria style. we saw a waitress when we walked in and i asked "do we just sit anywhere?" she just looked at us and walked away. so we sat down for about ten minutes and then realized we had to go up to get our food.
the tables were all dirty. when we came back to our table after getting our food, we found the waitress sitting in it eating, so we had to sit at a dirty table to eat.
overall, not a great experience at all. wouldn't go back till they clean up their act a bit.
All FAIR TRADE Coffee!!! Wow, what a find in Sarnia!!! The food is fresh and delicious. Had (and highly recommend) the Reuben and homemade curried coconut and pumpkin soup!!! And you should see the MASSIVE (again homemade) apple pie!!!! The staff were so friendly and efficient. Not much parking available, but there is some in the back. The view from the patio is stunning. Just a really great place!!
Simply put, great people , great food, and fantastic coffee. Parking is in the back btw, but worth it if you want to chill out on a nice day and sit on the patio.
