The rooster is a great place to stop for lunch. I always stop here when in NOTL .
I like this restaurant quite a bit and visit it when in Niagara-On-The-Lake (NOTL). If you are looking for casual or family style dining without the NOTL prices, this is the place to visit. The décor is an outstanding collection of Rooster representation which lends itself well to a homey feel. Booths and tables are available. All of the staff I've met are friendly and welcoming. The food is fairly good and I have heard local people there which is a good sign. If I were to make recommendations it would be to incorporate items from the Health Check program on the menu, especially since many visitors/residents of NOTL are middle aged or seniors and have health concerns(for more info. google Heart & Stroke health check program) I would like to see grilled fish as an option on the menu instead of only battered. Finally, a welcome change would be to incorporate the fresh tomatoes, peaches and produce that is so abundant in NOTL during the summer months rather than supermarket imports or hothouse produce. The difference is substantial in taste. The restaurant is handicapped accessible, licensed with Niagara wines available and there is nicely landscaped patio out front for dining outdoors. The restaurant has its own free parking, unlike many in NOTL and can accommodate larger groups with notice. It is not right on the main street of NOTL, but very much within the historic town. It is open 7 days a week for all meals, dine in or take out.
We had a great meal at the little red rooster. It was a very good experience. After this visit we all know why It is a busy place in Niagara on the lake. We will definitely return. Homemade food; friendly people; reasonable price.
I like this restaurant and personally feel it has improved since the original owner was at the helm upon reading the previous review. The hostess/owner is very much a people person that was much needed at the restaurant and her husband does an excellent job preparing the food. My only comments would be that I would like to see some more items that are nutritious (healthy balanced meals) on the menu. This does not mean organic or vegetarian. It means that vegetables are included (or an option) instead of fries/toast. Grilled Fish would be preferable to battered and substituting out the the fries for salad would also be nice. It would not cost more to do this, and seniors, and those who dine out frequently and must watch their weight for health etc would welcome that change. I have had no problems with any wait staff. Hours have improved.
My family has visited Niagara on the Lake several times and one of our favourites has always been the Little Red Rooster. The atmosphere is relaxed and always remind us of our favourtie restaurant back home. The food is excellent and staff is friendly. For what its worth we dont even have to pay an outrageous amount to park. ITS FREE!!! That almost never happens. We always leave feeling like a regular and completely satisfied. By far the best and most reasonable place in that town.
Since the new owners took over, the place has gone downhill Service is very slow, wait staff hide in the kitchen instead of being on the floor with the customers. Poached eggs came out like rubber. The second time we went we were left waiting for service. After 20 minutes we got up and left.
Summer hours are acceptable; winter hours here are poor. The restaurant is cute with the rooster themes and it is kept quite clean. Most staff seems charismatic/friendly. The food is good, but there could be some improvements with the Eggplant parmesan. It is too much pasta!!! It would also be nice if the restaurant would offer "grilled" fish instead of battered. The grilled is healthier and this is a concern for many people. Incorporate a few more healthy meals. Otherwise, I recommend the restaurant :-)
just came back to our hotel after having a fantastic meal! The reviews we read here prompted us to go and after our meal, we were very glad we did!!!
We recently moved to town and we were hoping this would be our everyday place we could drop in and have a quick meal. It is not too quick. Service is friendly but slow and the food is adequate at best.
Love the food, the price for the quality of food was great. Slices of roast turkey not processed meat for the sandwich and the Mandarin salad was fresh and large. The staff was good and friendly. We have been on several occasions and have had no bad service or food. We look forward to eating here instead of the high priced places in town.
as locals we visit here often, it is a great place to take the kids, we are always treated well, and i never feel like i am just a number. my favorite local establishment.
Order liver with onions and mashed potatos for lunch and it was delicious. The prices are reasonable and the food is as good as homecooked. The restaurant has a nice and cozy, european atmosphere...will definetly visit again.
I like this restaurant and many locals do also. It is generally reasonable for Niagara On The Lake. I will point out that a two dollar surcharge for white meat on the turkey sandwich is too much. I have ordered the Spartan burger before and it is tasty. I would recommend it. One serious problem with this restaurant are the hours of operation! It is closed entirely on Mondays. During "high tourist season" they close at 7 pm when people are only beginning to start thinking about eating. It's nuts. I have seen people turned away. Otherwise, the restaurant is good.
Food was better than average, service was good. Was like diner food but better. Milkshakes were good!
Why we read the reviews about how good this place was, I will never know. It really was the worst restaurant in our entire Niagara on the lake visit. I guess the locals love it cause it's cheap. Let me tell you the quality of the food is worth less than the price.
we are locals and love the restaurant. try the Chicken Ciabatta, it is amazing, the most beautiful thing my mouth has ever experienced!!! (says ben) We visit often and love the staff. We'll continue to go and experince the great food. (and take out) in fact, we are going right now to pick up our take out. ENJOY!
it was sooo good we are having our reheasal dinner there in june
Went to Niagara on a mini-getaway for 4 days and stayed on the US side(mistake- construction everywhere, town was dirty, people were rude, Canadian side was much better) During the day me and my friend ventured out trying to get lost in the Canadian Countryside after visiting the falls... As soon as you cross the Rainbrow Bridge you turn Right and we followed that path through "wine country". We stopped at several vinyards and purchased some wine. We then ended up in the BEAUTIFUL town of Niagara on the lake, walked around the Gazebo near the shore there just off Main. We left searching for fuel for the car and for us. Found a gas station just right down from the Gazebo. We stopped there for gas and this odd looking building was across the street called " The Little Red Rooster" We decided to go give it a try. Walking in you get a feel like your walking into any "mom and pops" resturant in the SouthEast US( I live in Tennessee) but with class. We were promptly seated and given menus. They had a great selection of food. Im a picky person so I ordered chicken.. Hard to mess up i figured, and some Perogies as an apetizer, my friend had never heard of them,. Everything was Delicious.. My friend tried their wine and it was great... Chardoney i believe he had the first day.. It was so good that after we left we decided to go back the next day. and the next... We often talk about it time to time jokingly saying we are going back up to Canada to visit the Rooster. One day soon we will. If you are here in the area you have to visit the Gazebo area. Leaving the Roosters parking lot turn LEFT, then Left and the red-light and follow that road until it curve and you will see it on the left.
Awful breakfast was so dissapointing, I wonder who wrote the reviews "the owners" SO BAD. Never again
THIS WAS THE BEST BREAKFAST I HAVE EVER HAD . I AM GOING TO GO FOR LUNCH NEXT.
