amazing place full of charm food is way better than chain restaurants and cheaper
Great food and good service
Yummy food great people Thanks
This has been my favourite spot since I was a kid! Awesome food, GREAT PIE!!!!!!
Fish: High quality, great taste Chips: are not good, they are frozen and not home made like most fish and chip places. Price: expensive for small town Huntsville over all: Nice place, great staff nice location. They need to make their own fries and not use frozen.
I called in my order and was told it would be ready in 10 minutes. I walked in in 9 and gave the girl at the counter my name, and walked away with my order. The portion size was perfect, and any more would have been gluttonous, to say the least! The only criticism I have is that no lemon wedges are included with the order...although the fish tastes great without it. :-) Great Fish & Chips!
I think Westside has the best breakfast in Huntsville. Louis II and Family Place are competitors for the breakfast. As someone from the city it's nice to go somewhere that has real homefries and rye bread. I'm sick of going out for breakfast and being served deep-fried frozen potatoes! I love the homefries at Westside and the Eggs Benedict is one of the best I've ever had!
My wife and I are staying in towm for the weekend and decided we felt like fish and chips and was looking online and found this site. After reading the reviews I was aprehensive about visiting but we really felt like fish & chips so we went anyways, after realizing we were here a couple times before we knew it would be good. We ordered the 2pc haddock & chips and half chips and half coleslaw and shared a psc. of pie and 2 coffees, The bill was $32 plus tip, The service was quick and friendly, food was hot and very good.. They also have a mini menu for seniors and children, ours was from the regular menu and both our plates were full of food and we were not hungry when we got back to our room.
Coming from the East Coast, it's tough to find good Fish & Chips anywhere else. I was travelling thru Huntsville and "Westside" came up after a quick search on my GPS for a place to stop and eat. I'm glad it did! The place was busy around 5 pm, but my order was taken immediately and served within 10 - 15 minutes, piping hot. It was no huge platter but it was an average serving and the best fish & chips I've had, west of the Maritimes! I'll be sure to stop there again, any time I pass through Huntsville!
I agree with bigilo. This place is terrible, waited 40 minutes for the food to arrive after placing the order . Fish was frozen and the chips, well if you like them burnt than you win. I was totally embarrassed had another person with had to leave and went to eat somewhere else. Will never ever go back.
First off let me inform anyone looking at this review that you can trust it 100%. Fish and chips have always been my fav food and I have tried every fish and chip place between toronto to sudbury. I have worked in a fish and chip restaurant for 5 years while i was still going to school and i can tell you a good fish and chip from a bad one. When i moved up near huntsville 6 years ago I was looking for a good replacment for good fish and chips sat a reasonable price. Well i will cut righ to the chase. I got 2 orders of fish and chips for my ( very petite) wife and i from westside and i was shocked and apolled of the potrtion size was horrible. The halibut is not freh, its frozen, and I litterally paid an arm and a leg for our meal ( $27.68 to be exact). By the end of our meal ( we took home) both myself and wife were both still hungary. I was very upset with the portion size and especially how much I paid for it. I usually dont phone in and complain about anything but I could not help but feel ripped off. When I talked othe owner of the restaurant I told her I was very upset about the portion size in comparison to the cost of the 2 orders. The restaurant owner informed me that this was a common complaint and apologised to me. After that night I swore I wouldnever go back but unfortunatly I love fish and chips so much I decided to give westside's a 2 chance. Unfortunatly I have nowhere else to go for halibut fish and chips in my area and was continuing to give westside's my business hoping they would give me a half decent portion size without having to spend $30.00 everytime but unfortunatly I have to order a ( what they call a family pack) to feed myself and my petite wife. After getting used to the fact that everytime I go in there I am spending $30.00 or more for my order I would just gritt my teeth and accept it. Till I went back in there in February. I ordered my usuall " family pack". To my surprise the young lady who tallied up my bill said $38.47 please. The family pack is listed in their menu at about $29.00. Almost $10.00 tax I asked her. She then informed me that the family pack has been raised my $5.00/ order. Almost $40.00 to feed my wife and I. To sum it all up: 1. portion size is horrible 2. Priced WAY to high 3. Food is a 4 out of 10 ( being generouse) I have no clue who is reviewing this place on the other reviews but I am going to say it is friends and family. This fish and chip restaurant would not survive down near toronto and unfortunatly they know that they are the only place around so it seems they use that to their advantage. I have given westsides many chances but I will not EVER go back. Instead I drive to bracebridge ( 45mins) for much better priced and tastier fish and chips. I hope this review helps whomever is looking at it. I dont expect this discourage anyone from trying westside's atleast once, but I guess people will understand my full review after they experience it.
Foods always good and service frindly. If your after great fish and chips you may want to look elsewhere as the chips are from frozen and not fresh cut.
The best fish and chips I've ever had. Outstanding food every time - never a disappointment. The desserts are nice, (a bit pricey), but enjoyed by all. Comfort food that lasts the entire day. The service is fast, friendly and if we're in a hurry, they always deliver. Nice family atmosphere with a wonderful collection of teapots. Would recommend it to anyone passing through Huntsville.
Took our grand-daughter in for lunch. We ordered the family meal for $18.00 of 4 fish plus chips and coleslaw. The coleslaw even had some taste to it. So many places serve tasteless coleslaw. The fish batter is crisp and not greasy. Each had a drink and piece of their incredible pie. I love raspberry and it was one of the best I've ever had. Good crust! We had to wait for a table since there were 3 of us. Some twosomes were sitting at tables for 4 while tables for 2 were empty. But that's what happens when you seat yourself. Definitely a great place to eat in Huntsville!
Visited for breakfast and was told that seating was self serve. Found a little uncomfortable as was wondering through restaurant not know where to go. Once seated however the waitress was quick to take my order, and prompt with our beverages. The "starved" breakfast plate definetely lives up to it's name as it is a full portion of a large platter plate. Food was amazing and hit the spot after a late evening. Will visit again next time in area.
It seems as if the restaurant owners are asking their friends to review and give their place higher ratings everytime someone gives them a less than stellar review! A 10, please! Shame on you for misleading the public.
99% the best food ever lives close by and love it when ever we go up there its always the best and the service is just like your family
A very busy family-run restaurant where the locals come to eat. Well known for their reasonably priced fish and chips and their deep dish pies. Come early or late, hard to get a table during peak times.
It took 35 minutes to serve 4 people after placing the order. Food was very oily and the taste was mediocre. As a Torontonian, we cannot compare this restaurant with an average restaurant in Toronto.
My favourite place to eat, I very rarely eat elsewhere, I love the fish and chips, the service is great and very fast, I am always shocked by how fast the food comes out, no matter how busy it is. You can tell this is a family restaurant and the amount of time they've been around says a lot about this place! I have never tried anything on the menu that didn't meet my expectations.
