When Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and Princess Margriet of the Netherlands came to the Hamilton area, flowers to suit the royal occasions were arranged by none other than Russell Geddes, founder of Russell’s Flower Shop on Main Street at Kenilworth Avenue. Selling flowers has been the family business for four generations. The store opened in 1959 and is now owned and operated by Russell’s son Norman Geddes. He was well prepared for the job, having learned the business through years of hands-on experience that reach back to when he was a young boy.
“My dad opened the store here,” Norman says. “He previously worked at two other flower shops. He was married to my mother, whose family was also in the flower business, which goes back to 1891 when my great-grandfather opened a retail flower shop and greenhouse. So that makes me a fourth generation florist, which is kind of unique.” After he finished college, Norman decided he was interested in running the store. “I worked here with my dad and my mom and other employees and decided to take it on. My dad passed away about 14 years ago and I’ve been the president, CEO and garbage man and delivery man and you name it.”

The friendliness of the staff and over professional way the plants are arranged with the hard work put into their designs. I have come to use them, over and over through the years.
