Visited on a Monday night and asked about any specials. The waitress/bar tender informed us that "appetizers are half price", We ordered multiple appetizers and enjoyed the quality and quantity. Reviewing the bill we believed we had been over charged. Asking the waitress for an explanation we were told " the menu clearly states only one appetizer per person" No pre-warning was given to us although we conversed with the waitress many times before ordering. Zero apology was offered or any attempt to remedy the issue. Hope you enjoyed the dollar tip.
The burger i ordered was burnt completely, and when i complained about it they argued with me that it was fine, they gave me another burger and this one was also burnt. So i ordered fish and chips and the fish was RAW. the patatoes were fine though, i talked to the owners and they made me pay for these bad foods. I WILL NEVER GO AGAIN
Went in on a Monday afternoon had their special 'Panko Fried Bass w/ fries, gravy & Coleslaw' SO good! I prefer to come here in the afternoon when it is a bit more quiet or get take out in the evening as this place start hoppin in the evenings. But man this place is one of the top Five in fergus for sure! I also recommend their Cod and Fries!
Good location and good atmosphere over looking the Gorge it would be nice if they could clean the windows for a better view (not an easy task, I know). The place is kind of small and I don't think I would personally like to be there on a busy day. The services was good mind you not to busy when we were there so I wouldn't expect anything other then good services. Over all a good place to eat and I shall return.
Been many times, love this place and have tried a bunch of items on the menu Boyfriend loves the Newfie dark beer that they have on tap, i love the lava-coloda both with or without booze
Love the goofie, amazing food, great service and the absolute best live music in Fergus, hands down. The decor is very down to earth, and the floors could use some work.
Food was pretty good , The atmosphere was popping with fresh fish aromas. the service was fast and I was catered to pretty darn good.
Went New years Eve, have been many times since the food is good, its a relaxed place, and in the summer the view from the deck is wonderfull or even looking down into the river from the windows is great. The service is nice, and my boyfriend loves the Newfie dark beer. Generaly i cant drink but i had the "lava pina coloda" (spelling?) our last time there and it was amazing. Hope thay can make it booze free for me the next time i am in. Most often i have the fresh water fish and chips, but between me, and my parents we have sampled alot of their items (boyfriend i think only ever has the fish and chips). We have even had their moucels and they were really good too.
A Hidden gem in Fergus, I love this place. Good food, awesome bar (they have their own Goofie Newfie Drink) and a cool atmosphere. It's the kindof place where you can get up and dance and not feel like a douchbag. They have pretty good live music here on weekends too.
The mixed reviews sum this place up for me. My wife likes it for some reason that I don't understand. I wouldn't go there otherwise. Food is expensive for what you get and not always great either. Pleasant atmosphere with cold beer and a great setting. The appetisers are good. I will give them that, but the entrees to me are below average. Newfie Nachos and Pergogies are nice.
First time at the Goofie Newfie, sat on the patio in the late afternoon and was in a a bit of a rush. The server accomodated somewhat, but didn't exactly go above and beyond the call of duty to do so. Regardless, the food was good. I've been on a bit of a liver kick this month (that means I ate it twice, which is probably more than I've eaten liver in the past decade) and this was liver and onions made the way it should be. Nice and tender, just like mama used to make it. It was served with an ugly slab of cabbage which was actually quite tasty. The giant boiled carrot could have used some flavour, but I guess they want to give people the healthy option of eating it unseasoned? I noticed that there were a couple of reviews below complaining about portion size. I would have to say that I didn't find that, as I had just enough on my plate. Most North Americans overeat anyways. I got what I expected at the Goofie Newfie and I would return to what seems to be a fun place to eat with a great view of the river.
Looking for a relaxing place with freindly service and outstanding food... Look no further than the Goofie Newfie. We had a wonderful time and left feeling satisfied that the special night out was found there. I definatly recommend the Goofie Newfie to everyone!
Visited here a few times. just to try their diff "traditional newfoundlad meals" The menu and the descriptions may make it look like its a traditional newfoundland meal but its far from it when you get it. Some of it seems like they got it from M&M meat shops. They are not expensive but are over priced for what you get. The service is up and down. depends on the waitress and if they are more concerned about what is going on around the bar or in the pool room. I would return for a few drinsk or a beer but for the food never.
One reviewer thought that bad reviews were from jealous competition??? I think not. I am certainaly not affiliated with any restaurant. All I can say is that the value for the money was just not there. The portion sizes are very small and the food was not that good. It really is too bad because the location is just lovely. We will never ever return because it just was not good enough to justify the cost. Sorry.
We went here for a family birthday and I must say are experience was outstanding. I read the previous 2 reviews and wonder if they have possibly been made by jealous competition??!! This is not a fact, only a personal feeling! We had 2 items off the childrens menu(the both included drinks..one chocolate milk & one rootbeer)....this was stated on the menu & we definetly were not charged for our childrens drinks....the portion was what you would ecspect for 6 bucks..not huge no but definetly not to little for our CHILDREN!! My husband had the full size fish & chips with gravy & I had the half size of the same with a caesar salad replacing my fries(which I did pay 1.99 for but it was not a suprised as this is stated multiple times on the menu & really is standard procedure). My husband was overflowing full, it was a ton of food. My half size/salad were a great size for me, I was feeling perfect after eating it, not to full, defiently no longer hungry. I did feel my caesar was a nice size, remember it is only meant to be a side salad & of course anyone with common sense would know that to prepare a salad would be more costly then a potato. Also, my hubby & I both enjoyed the homemade coleslaw so much that we ordered some to go....it was double as yummy the next day! As mentioned it was a birthday so, we finished with a mouthwatering slice of baileys-white choclate cheesecake. For those of you who have not yet tried the Goofie Newfie you really should try it and then make your own decision on the quality/quantity of the food. I do know it will be a regular for our family outings. Service was OUTSTANDING..friendly, polite with a personality(this is not common much now a days)
I have to agree with the below review. You get bearly any food for your money. My husband ordered fish and chips, the fish was so overly battered and the pile of fries did not even cover the plate. I got a large ceasar salad that was the size of a small for around $8.00. We will not ever return, do not know what people say it's a good restaurant!
Spent $45 for our meal. Could they put any less food on the plates??? Unreal! First, my daughter ordered chicken fingers and fries $5.99...did not include the pop. 2 small chicken fingers and 11 fries on the plate. I had a half portion of fish and chips...$8.99. I asked for salad instead of fries...sure no problem I was told...fish was small, coleslaw lacked any flavour and the salad was a tiny pile on the plate (pathetic amount). Worse part was when I got my bill I realized that they actually had the nerve to charge me an additional $2 for the privelidge of them taking away the fries and giving me a measly portion of salad. How does that make any sense? While paying I mentioned to the waitress (service was pretty good...that I will say) that I thought the value was just awful...she said..."well the cost of food has really gone up over the last while, the plates are portion controlled...and the child's portions are really meant for children under 7..." Hmmmm, apparently so are the adult meals. We will NEVER go back.
This place has absolutely no character and the wait staff are awful. It has no class and the food wasn't very good either. With so many quaint and unique places in Fergus and Elora, I'm not sure why anyone would go here.
HMMM, HMMMM GOOD!!! The fish cakes were just as decribed.... salted potato with flakes of cod and fried onion. Jiggs was definetly cooked with the salt beef, excellent LEAN salt beef!!! Defiently the best service I have had in many years!! Thanks Goofie Newfie
Amazing, this is a notch up from most Pub & Grills. A different menu and very little over battered deep fried things! I was shocked to read a review of someone NOT enjoying the fish and chips, it was by far the best I've had (yes I have been to all eastren provinces)... it was cooked to perfect golden, just a nice crisp layer of batter wit a beautiful hint of vinager and ale!! Honestly, everything we had was greatly enjoyed and all four of us look foward to our nrext visit, we've already planned a return with a party double the size! The Bloddy Caesar was outstanding...yummy!
