My boyfriend and I usually visit when we can't decide on anything particular to eat. This place is your average typical Mandarin - nothing spectacular, good food and service (although it can get annoying when you hear a chorus of "Welcome to the Mandarin" 50,000 times during dinner).
This place was gross! The reviews made it seem good, but trust me don't go. they had more canadian food than they did chinese, and the Chinese they did have was loaded with MSG yet was still flavourless, on the ride home i wished i could puke it up. Sadly my stomach still hurts and my pallet is hating me for the decision. Now i know why they keep loading up the water even before i ate.
This is a great special occasion restaurant!! And go when you a hungry. They often have snow crabs, and will when you ask give crackers for them. The only unfortunate thing is that they use canola oil, and not butter, and you can taste it. The price is fabulous for a buffet. The welcome is nice, but tedius because everyone says it. Food is wonderful, fresh and hot. And so much of it. And such a variety there is alot to enjoy and a very resonable price.
Friendly, affordable, big menu, big portions. Good value for the family. They have specialty items on the menu like sushi and fried rice amongst other things. Expect to wait for a table on weekends. Kids love it though.
This place is pretty good - a typical Mandarin. The food is good, the service is decent. Like other users say, hearing "Welcome to Mandarin" about 100 times per visit is annoying but at least the staff are friendly. My only complaint is that you have to hold on to your food - if you turn around for a moment they sometimes take it away on you!
i was eating lunch and felt sick so i got up to go outside for air. i gave my niece the money to pay for lunch.all of a sudden 2 people were chasing me outside. they thought i did'nt pay. i told them my niece is paying and they still did'nt believe me. the man went to check and the girl stood by me to make sure i did'nt leave. i've never been so more embarresed in my life. i will never go there again.
While the selection is great and the salads are above-par, the hot dishes were a disappointment. I actually witnessed an employee pour hot water into a dish and stir it up to make it look fresh even though it had previously congealed. With regards to the service, I recognize how they want to portray a welcoming atmosphere, but hearing "welcome to Mandarin" 50 times while walking to my table is quite annoying. With respect to the management, the gentleman who manages the restaurant is extremely good at yelling and belittling the employees in public, but terrible with the guests. This restaurant has potential, but it is far from achieving it at this point.
This place was amazing, you can get anything from sushi and wontons to fried chicken and mashed potatoes!! And, I got a Ceaser and accidenly spilt it so they just brought me another N/C!
I've been to this location perhaps 8 or 9 times. Its a great bargain for lunch. I do not eat enough to make dinner worthwhile. I like the variety but I can only eat one plate. I'm not into stuffing myself senseless like so many of the Mandarins patrons. The service is always excellent and they are extremely attentive. With the general rudeness of their "oversized" patrons I dont know how they keep it up but they treat everyone like a king. As mentioned I am not a big fan of buffets. However the mandarin is quality food. I engoy the place and at times its scary how attentive they can be. The water glass never goes dry and if you need somethng they get it immediately. SOme people actually complain about this as being "robotic" but comeon. WHere else do they keep such a close eye on your comfort? Sure the "welcome to the Madarin" slogan gets old fast but they are just trying to serve you and thats nice. I know of no other establishment that is ready and willing to bow to their customer like that. They aften have different items. While the main dished remain the same each visit has something different. My only complaint is with the vegatables. There is a very small selection of fresh veggies. I know I'm the minority when I see I would rather see a big vegetable spread rather than all those deserts. All in all you cannot go wrong with the Madarin. Whoever runs this outfit knows waht they are doing as its extremely consistant from location to location.
Food was great! Great service but we felt to rushed! Overall, the whole visit was great and i will definetly be back.
you can't beat an all you can eat buffet with so much variety and such great service. For a buffet style restuarant the service is excellent and the food is of the best quality at mandarin queensway. p.s. I called in and i have never been greeted that nicely before. excellent! whoever was receiving calls on march second, around 11 am should get a big tip.
While each salad had its own unique flavour - not so the buffet. Many 'chinese' dishes were prepared in the same way and so the flavours from one dish to another were similar - the rice was flat to the taste. The cauliflower and cheese dish was starchy and the white sauce had a strong 'flour' taste. The servers kept refilling our water glasses even though we had asked that they do not. We had to ask for extra serviettes. We were only give ONE for the entire meal. I got really tired of hearing 'welcome to the Mandarin' like some robotic aliens. The fruit was fresh and ripe, the sweet table had a lot of variety but again that is NOT what we came for. In comparison to other buffets when considering the cost, it did not measure up. I would suggest less variety, and more quality! Lunch is a better deal at almost 1/2 price.
The service was absolutely great! Never had a complaint about anything!!! The waiters/waitresses made sure our plates were always cleared away quickly and without being intrusive. Our glasses were never empty without getting refilled and again it was very quick and unintrusive. They greeted us promplty and politly and always made sure we had clean napkins without having to ask. It was a beautiful dinner and the service was excellent. They made our Valentines that much more special and made the night a huge success. Thank you Mandarin!! Will definately be returning for our next special occassion.!!!
Probably the best Mandarin restaurant I've been to. They changed our napkins every 5 minutes!
I thought that the service, food and people there where AMAZING!!! I would come more then once again, not only for special occasions but for anything. The food was jusr exquitsite, I just oved it. I just LOVE THE MANDARIN!!!!!!
The food is so delicious and the service is the best that I've ever had.
We think this is the best of all the Mandarins and we've been to most in Toronto. The food is excellent, always fresh and very tastey. Even though it's Chinese food, their prime rib is always as good as at any steak house we've been to. It's clean and the service is first rate.
There are to many people standing around to re-fill your drinks. It is creepy.
Great service even though it is a buffet. Spotlessly clean and welcoming atmosphere. Good variety of food - could be more for vegetarians. My only complaint they were out of green tea.
