One of the great things about a fish and chips place is that you know what to expect, and when fish and chips is the focus, you can expect they will be done well. There’s no poor food disguised by glitzy surroundings or slow but painfully overpriced service to contend with.
Mary Xu, owner of family-run Captain John’s Donlands Fish and Chips on Donlands Avenue, says she had her work cut out for her when she took over the popular spot in 2013; the fish and chip shop existed since the late 90s and had built up a loyal clientele who appreciated the friendly take-out and eat-in service. “We must be doing something right because patrons, both old and new, frequently comment on the fast and friendly service,” laughs Mary.
