Without a doubt, one of the best dining experiences ever. We had the Rack of Lamb which was spectacular, amazing gravies, with escargot as an appetizer, cooked to perfection. The service was friendly, responsive and informative. Phenomenal!

    What a gem!

Once in while we luck out and find a place like this! We were able to secure a table in this lovely establishment while staying in the area for a getaway weekend. Being tourists in the area, I made a point of asking many people for their dining recommendations. Not one person suggested this place, and yet, when I consulted this site and other online reviews, The Gables was mentioned again and again as the place to go. So, in the end we decided to roll the dice and give it a shot. Boy, were we happy we did! The service was excellent and everyone was friendly. The German wine we ordered was excellent. The choices on the menu, along with the daily specials, all sounded so appetizing that making a decision was difficult. My husband ordered a fresh pea soup, which he loved, while I had the mixed greens with sesame-coasted goat cheese and pink peppercorns. It...was...divine! I was tempted to place another order, it was so good! Oh, and I should mention that the fresh bread and butter that was brought to our table was also incredibly yummy. Our entrees were delicious. We ordered the schnitzel and the beef tenderloin with green peppercorn sauce. Both were served with asparagus, potatoes, carrots and turnips. Usually, following an appetizer and an entree, we are too full to enjoy dessert, but the food wasn't greasy and heavy, so we were pleased to find that yes, we did have room for dessert. A good thing, too, because the apple strudel with ice cream and whipped cream topped with a fresh raspberry was wonderful. Our evening ended on a pleasant note when our friendly server asked if we'd like to meet the chef. Of course, we took the opportunity to compliment him and his staff in person on a job well done. We will be back!
