Meet the owner

Youthful exuberance: Albert Snow sure has it. It’s clear the moment you walk into his busy salon, Albert Snow Hair Design Group located in the heart of Westdale Village in Hamilton. The energy there is young and edgy, perfect for creating unique fashion statements. When you meet Albert and learn that he’s been cutting and styling hair for over 50 years, you may be speechless at the passion he has for his customers, his staff, his business and his community. “I’ve got more energy than you have,” he says with a smile.

Albert Snow Hair Design Group started in 1972 as Heads and Threads. But there was a lot of excitement in Albert’s life preceding that. As a young man with long hair who wore bell-bottoms and was a self-professed rebel, he fell into the exhilarating 1960s fashion scene in London, England. “Back then in London, that’s where everything was happening,” Albert says. “There was [renowned Welsh fashion designer] Mary Quant, [British hair and fashion legend Vidal] Sassoon, the Beatles, and it really hadn’t reached North America when I was there. So I’m on the cutting edge of the whole fashion and music scene back then.”

While with Sassoon’s organization, Albert's creativity was ignited. “Back then in North America women were teasing their hair and had big beehives and going to the salon and having to maintain it," he says. "When I starting doing hair in Canada, I was cutting hair one side different from the other.”
