St. Martins was incorporated by an Act of the New Brunswick Legislature on November 9, 1967 and is located on miles of Bay of Fundy beaches is the seaside community of St Martins which is the gateway to the Fundy
Trail. The original name was 'Goolwagagek' a Mi'kmaq word meaning 'haunt of the hooded seal'. St Martins became a major ship building community where 500 sailing ships were built.Over 68 building in the
village were destroyed by fire on May 31, 1900. The wealth of the shipbuilder leaves a lasting architectural legacy in the grand homes that remain. St. Martins has become known as one of New Brunswick's most beautiful seaside vacation resort communities.
