Originally, the site of Avalon Gardens was the home of the Avalon Medical Clinic. An impromptu conversation between one of the founding doctors, Dr. G. Wolchok and patient David Martens, one of the Avalon Gardens developers birthed the vision of a senior's condominium. Another clinic partner, Dr. Tom Parsons recalled how the name 'Avalon' came about. Just prior to the opening of the medical clinic, his father Harry Parsons, who lived on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland, suggested the name.
