First Avenue Christian Assembly began in 1927 when a handful of people began meeting in homes for prayer. Like many other Pentecostal churches, this church began as a few people met to pray and seek more of a pentecostal experience. After meeting in homes for a short time they moved to Orange Hall and eventually a hall above a shoe store on Yale Road. From that visionary group, the church was founded and Rev. James Purse became the first pastor. The assembly built its first church on the corner of Second and Young in 1929. First Avenue Christian Assembly is a contemporary Pentecostal church located in Chilliwack, B.C., that is endeavoring to share the love of Jesus with everyone we can. We are a multi-generational church, composed of a variety of people from different stages and walks of life, that have embraced the message of God's salvation through Jesus Christ and are trying to live according to His word, the Bible. Living according to God's Word means caring for people. Consequently we believe that families are important and we strive to provide relevant teaching to children and youth that will allow them to embrace the message of God's salvation and develop into mature disciples of Christ. Further, we seek to care for adults by providing relevant teaching and connecting them with other believers because we recognize that spiritual growth does not happen outside of relationships with other believers in Christ. If you are interested in developing an authentic relationship with Jesus and growing in your spiritual life please join us as together we discover how amazing our heavenly Father is and the life He offers us to live.more...See more text
