Located in the heart of Burnaby, Journey Home Thrift is an integral part of the Edmonds Community. Launched in 2011, the thrift store supplements the income from Journey Home Community (JHC), which supplies local refugee families with housing, settlement support and supportive relationships, and also provides volunteer opportunities. By shopping at Journey Home Thrift or donating gently used items to the store, customers know they are directly helping newcomers to their own community.
“We invite people to look at both things and people differently,” says Doug Peat, manager of Journey Home Thrift. “We also encourage people to look at new Canadians differently. They aren’t coming without skills and life experience; they are coming with a wealth of perspective and experience that can benefit Canadian culture as a whole.”
