A trip to the hospital can be a stressful time, whether you’re the patient or just visiting one. If you find yourself in the Sturgeon Hospital, the SHAVA Gift Shop will be there to provide the types of items you may need, but can’t or don’t want to leave the hospital grounds for. “We call it our mini-drugstore,” says Jackie White, President of SHAVA (Sturgeon Hospital Auxiliary Volunteer Association).
The SHAVA Gift Shop stocks the types of items people need, but may not have had time to pack, such as toothbrushes, combs and personal care products. It also has a number of gift items for visitors looking to brighten a patient’s day, including fresh flowers, brought in three or four times a week from a local florist, and an extensive baby department. “The Sturgeon Hospital is averaging about 220 births a month now, so we have a lot of people coming in looking for baby gifts,” says Jackie.
The stock in the store is so varied, in fact, that a hospital patient once completed her entire Christmas shopping here. “We try to have something for everybody,” says Jackie, “but one of our primary areas is personal care. It’s important that we have those things for patients at the hospital.”
