Ironically, Andy Fennell, owner of Inglewood’s Gravity Espresso & Wine Bar had until recently never had a cup of coffee in his life. But then he spent some time sitting in his local coffee shop drinking hot chocolate and reflecting on the dissatisfaction he felt with his boring day job. Fennell that the place had its own community of people who needed a place to go during the day, be it to meet with friends or business colleagues or to get out of their home offices just to spend some time in good company. It dawned on him that opening his own café might lift his funk. He decided to create a comfortable place that served great food and drinks and was simply a comfortable place in which people could hang out. And he wanted to be able to hang out along with them.
“I wanted to be in a community of people,” Fennell says. “The real driver behind Gravity was me getting to spend time with people and just enjoy life. I didn’t drink coffee, and I’d never run anything like this before in my life. So, when I decided to do it, it was a big learning curve and it still is.” Wanting it to be a place where people could relax and “come down to Earth,” Fennell named his café Gravity. Here, his customers can kick back, breathe a little easier and stay grounded.
This high-end coffee bar prepares exceptional coffee as well as serving beer, wine, yummy pastries and savoury cheese products. Drop by this Inglewood hotspot to enjoy a hot chocolate made with Papa Chocolat chocolate. Friday and Saturday evenings, pair this hot drink with live music and a cranberry orange muffin prepared with orange juice and orange zest. It’s a perfect fall treat!
A bustling coffee house by day, Gravity serves wine, beer and espresso in the afternoon and evening. On the weekends, local musicians play for an optional cover charge that is split with a local charity.
Tired of the soups and sandwiches that are typical café fare? Enjoy your next espresso (or glass of wine!) with a selection of three or five cheeses at Gravity Espresso & Wine Bar. Though most of the cheeses available here are hard cheddars, owner Andy Fennell always makes sure there’s a soft cheese on the menu. Don’t forget to order a bowl of olives, too.
