Bite into one of these great burgers on Toronto’s Danforth

Fire and the wheel are two of humanity’s greatest inventions, but we’re going to add the burger to the list as well. It’s just a patty in between two buns but the variations are endless at these great joints on the Danforth.

Square Boy Drive In

1
875 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON M4J 1L8

This place is part Greek restaurant and part diner-dive but the line at the counter tells you there’s something awesome going on in the kitchen. Stick with one of their homemade burgers and top it off with onion rings or rice. All sales are cash only.

The Old Nick Bar

2
123 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON M4K 1N2

You can opt for either a meat or vegetarian burger but it’s the add-ons that put this place in another sphere. Line your plate with things like edamame and chocolate lava cake, select from one of 14 beers on tap and eat al fresco on the cozy back patio – weather permitting. There’s live music Monday, Tuesday (open mic night), Thursday and Saturday, with acts like The Cliks, Carole Pope and Chad Wiseman having graced the stage.

Allen's

3
143 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON M4K 1N2

This place is among the best in the city for its (heated) backyard patio, massive beer and wine list, and – ah, yes, burgers. It’s the perfect place for a meal any time, or to hang out post-concert at the neighbouring Danforth Music Hall. Since it’s an authentic Irish saloon, you’ll mostly hear Celtic music in the background but they’ve been known to bring in the occasional live act to spice up the dinner hour.

Factory Girl

193, Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON M4K 1N2

Ontario craft beer tastes fine enough on its own but when you pair it with a tray of prime rib sliders, it goes down even better. And, instead of adding regular fries on the side, opt for sweet potato for extra deliciousness. If you’re really famished, try the six oz burger topped with cheddar and bacon and a side of red wine gravy poutine. Move your food to the patio for a great dining experience.

You can jazz things up with a classic poutine or go Greek-style with feta cheese and Greek dressing. It’s just one block east of Coxwell Subway Station, so arriving and getting home is super easy.
