Meet the owner

Tacos El Asador is a fixture in the Christie Pitts area. With a reputation for authenticity and an unassuming atmosphere, Tacos El Asador is a neighbourhood favourite. It’s owned and operated by the Gonzalez family, who has been serving up fresh, made-to-order Salvadorian-Mexican cuisine since 1993.

Rene Gonzalez is today’s owner and the son of Salvadorian immigrants. He remembers growing up in the restaurant and began working there in 1996. “When we started out, we mostly served authentic Salvadorian food. Then in 1996, we started to do Mexican dishes as well.”

Originally, the space at Clinton and Bloor was a Tex-Mex restaurant. Rene’s mother worked for the Canadian owner and began to introduce Salvadorian food to the menu. The owner thought the food was so good that he turned the restaurant over to Rene’s mother and father. And El Asador was born.

my god the tacos were discusting, I don't know why this place gets such good ratings. The food was horrible and the hot sauce looked all pixely. I couldn't even finish my meal and i was hungry. Also it cost a lot of for garbage. LITERALLY

When I moved to Toronto from California I spent years trying to find a burrito that compares to the tacquerias I was used to. El Asador is El Salvadoran rather than Mexicali, however the food not only satisfied my craving for an excellent affordable burrito, it gave me an entirely new craving for amazing Salvadoran cuisine. If you love the cuisine of Mexico and Central America, you must eat here!
