    non-pretentious tiny spot

Mother India will serve you well if you are in a rush or happen to have to kill some time around lunch on Queen street. It is a tiny place with a little over ten tables and popular with local Indian food aficionados. We have done so much to take food from a collection of thermally processed edible items to art and there are so many places serving you art on the plate that sometimes you just want plain, ethnically true - food. This place does exactly that, serves good food at a low cost to people who just happen to be passing by and craving good, tasty Indian food. They are not trying to be something they are not, no fancy chefs, no fancy plates, no culis here and nothing here is au confit. Simple, tasty, spiced to your liking, eat in and take out, freshly prepared, well cooked Indian food only. If you are craving a more upscale, creative, fusion-type Indian, go elsewhere. But until then, this place is a nice, safe choice. The only reason I gave 3 stars to food is total lack of any effort in presentation, but that is very much in sync with this place's authentic feel. Enjoy!

Bars and bistros for a girls’ night in Parkdale Toronto

Bars and bistros for a girls’ night in Parkdale Toronto

Think of this Parkdale culinary landmark as an Indian diner. The food is delicious and reliable and you don’t need to dress up unless you’re all planning to hit one of the local bars afterwards. It’s a great place for catching up over good food. Unlike a lot of Indian restaurants, the menu is not overwhelming, featuring many popular curries and biryanis and a variety of vegetarian and meat rotis.

You’ll have roti left over after your next plate of butter chicken – that’s how large they make them at Mother’s. They have a beautiful and spacious seating area and great hours, so you can relax and enjoy a meal with your friends or co-workers. The fresh ingredients and herbs used in every dish will keep you coming back for more. Call ahead and your chicken will be made fresh within 20 minutes.
