On a sweltering summer Sunday, once they’re finished passing the Frisbee around High Park, families pilgrimage to the Junction to cool off with some of Delight Chocolate’s decidedly delicious organic ice cream.
Jeff Brown and Jennifer Rasleigh — the creative husband-and-wife duo behind this chocolaterie — churn out some of the city’s best ice cream. When they aren’t busy crafting picture-pretty fair trade, organic chocolates, that is.
Since Delight is first and foremost a chocolate shop, it only makes sense that their chocolate ice cream is phenomenal. Made with Dominican chocolate, Delight’s version of the ice cream parlour staple is so rich that it deserves to be taxed. Even their vegan variant (made with coconut milk) is wonderfully luxurious.
The ice creams on offer change throughout the summer months to reflect the fruits that are season. Jeff and Jennifer have worked to cultivate relationships with farmers in Ontario and Quebec so they’re always bringing in fresh, locally grown produce. May sees strawberry, June cherry, and the sky's just about the limit come July (think: apricot, watermelon, raspberry, plum and peach ice cream and sorbet flavours).
Husband and wife Jennifer Rashleigh and Jeff Brown have been making mouthwatering handmade ice cream from natural, organic ingredients for the last decade.
They insist on using premium products such as Grass Fed Harmony Organic milk and cream, certified local Food Plus eggs, organic fair trade chocolate and sugar as well as local organic or L.F.P. certified seasonal fruit. They even hand make their own waffle cones using flour from Merrylynd Organics.
Delight Chocolate has gained a stellar reputation through its handcrafted truffles with exotic fillings. Choose from a huge selection like the chocolate caramel with smoked sea salt, or ginger, filled with freshly ground ginger infused into dark chocolate ganache.
Two words: peanut butter. Pair that with real chocolate, not powder, and we expect we’ll find you sipping from a seat inside Delight, the Junction-dwelling chocolate studio with a knack for the beloved beverage. Husband-and-wife duo Jeff Brown and Jennifer Rashleigh craft the quality hot cho, lovingly rendered with organic and fair trade ingredients, in house. Although they host rotating specials, you can always expect their menu to feature regular hot chocolate, spiced hot chocolate and, of course, the absolutely dreamy peanut butter hot chocolate.
