In the year 1999, Larry Filler and Richard Boire saw an opportunity in data mining and analytics, and Boire Filler Group was born. The company, which is located in Pickering, Ontario, caters to different organizations that require predictive analytics/data analytics and data management. "There is immense opportunity with data mining and analytics as many companies are in need of those kinds of capabilities," says Richard, who is also the author of Data Mining for Managers: How to Use Data (Big and Small) to Solve Business Challenges, which was published in 2014. "We saw a need that could be fulfilled in the marketplace and we had the skills based on our previous backgrounds."
Richard and Larry met in 1988 while working at American Express. "I was in the analytics area and Larry was in marketing for insurance,” Richard explains. “A lot of my work was to deliver various solutions to the product/services people within American Express. He was in the insurance department of American Express and was responsible for marketing strategy and execution of products and services within that department. Larry was always very inquisitive and was very enthusiastic about how predictive analytics or data analytics in general could provide significant benefit to his area. Together, we saw the opportunity to take this to a much broader marketplace."
