The food was good, but not excellent. HOWEVER, I would NEVER go back because of the service. I have never been treated worse by a restaurant. They said they were really busy with reservations, I understand that. Though, when we walked in, they had two tables and the reservations weren't until an hour from then. Then, the waiter suggests for us to take 'take-out'. I said I couldn't because we're not from Newmarket. So after checking with the chef to see if he could seat us, he seats us ... he hands us the menu and says "you can only order this this and this on the menu and you have to order right now." My date and I weren't even given the chance to look at the menu. (All the while, there was a couple laughing beside us because they had to go through the same thing, but they decided to take "take-out" .. haha, I had a little chat with them). To cap off the night, my date goes to pay for the meal and at the counter the chef calls him cheap and insults other sushi restaurants while he paid. We spent over $100. Anyways, I feel horrible for suggesting this place because it was supposed to be fun and it turned out to be horrible. Again, I will NEVER go back. I wish someone warned me. So if you're reading this, I hope you consider this rating
I've been dying to try their Omakase menu. Omakase means "it's in your hands", meaning, we leave it to the chef to decide what we'll eat. They did ask if there was anything we won't eat and luckily we're pretty open minded. At $55/person I was honestly expecting a bit more, but it was still delicious. We started with some side dishes, not too different than what you'd get free at a Korean restaurant, some shredded mushroom and the sort. The second course was a sashimi plate with the freshest and largest sashimi I'd ever had. I'm really picky about by sushi (read my review of Sushi Sushi and see what bad sushi is all about). I never knew you could eat shrimp uncooked, but I did! Next was a soft tofu soup, it had small bits of salmon in which gave it some taste. The texture was a bit hard for me to get used to, but it was certainly different. I was pretty full at this point, but you've got to soldier on. They then brought out a basic sushi plate, 4 pieces, of very fresh sushi. The only unique thing on that was the uni (sea urchin). That one took a little courage as the texture was a bit too vomit like. Next was grilled mackrel in a miso sauce. Very nice. Lastly, we got dessert. Had no idea what it was and was told that it was soy milk with black sesame seeds. It's the only dish I had to leave, but my wife loved it. Overall, great if you like to experiment, but quite pricey for what you get. I'll be back, but just for the sushi next time.
Since the first time i tried, can't stop thinking of going back. Price a bit on the high side, but definitely worth it. I have tried other restaurant in downtown but nothing can compare to solo.
